Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
More progress....................
I spent most of the morning sweating my butt off building the lower half and most complex part of my fresh air inlet. I wish I had more money to do a oil relocate kit, and might later on. But for now, this will have to work. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0523.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0524.jpg I had to trim and clean up the LH piping some more, but I managed to get it tacked up too. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0525.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0526.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0527.jpg Now I think the engine is ready to come out so I can finish the turbo piping, smooth out some stuff on the frame, paint everything, and reassemble to get ready to get it running! I still have to get the hydros set up for the clutch, and I will be building another 241DHD with a modified oil pick up for it. Tick tock............ Tick tock...................... |
Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Very nice work on the tubing Ryan! We'll need some video soon of black smoke pouring out of the pipe(s):):)

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
personally i think you need another boot on the driver side, right where your two pieces come together above the pump. my motor moves alot when it starts and shuts off. better safe than a cracked intake tube at the flange.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Today was a good day and I managed to get a lot done on the truck. I got it in the big bay and put exhaust on it. It was a pita and I had to use some left over pieces to get this done. (I'm trying to save some money where I can) I still have to put a couple more band clamps on it, but the exhaust is mostly done. It is a 4" down pipe into 5" behind the tcase, and 5" out the back in to a 6" tip.
http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0541.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0542.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0540.jpg I got all the turbo piping welded up. Now I have to smooth the welds out and paint them. I also got the inner wheel wells off the wall and trimmed them to clear my intercooler piping. I also started rust repair on them. They were rusted out where the braces are where they bolt to the fenders. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0539.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0535.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0533.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0534.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0537.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0538.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0536.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0532.jpg I installed the rh battery tray to see what clearance I had to get the air filter in there. I had to modify my pipe, but we finally got it in there where it looks decent. I have to finish welding this pipe tomorrow. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0531.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0530.jpg |

Your truck is really starting to come together and looking good!
When you pull the engine, do you plan on putting heat insulation on the firewall ? |

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Well, after looking at the forecast for the week, I made a decision that this truck isn't going to Good Guys this weekend. There's just too much to do to it, and I have to work on the burb project, and we have to put the corvette back together. Oh well. Today I'm thinking about putting the lh door together, put a hood on it, and putting it out in the sunlight for a little while.

On Sunday my wife helped me hold the glass up so I could get my window in. I forgot to put the regulator in first, and had a real fun time putting this side together. Oh boy, these doors are fun.

yeah, I only have one "replacement" door on mine so far, and I forgot to put the mirror on first (2wd style)... that was a pain... I did however install new regulator first :) |

Just do what i do ......get a bigger beer fridge and if you leave the door open enough it cools the shop. It also helps to motivate the shop trolls to show up and help more.....lol

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
do you have some sort of lake or well nearby ?
you could allso use a swamp cooler , a friend of mine made its own out of a big ass fan and a truck radiator , he trew a submersible pump in the lake behind his house to circulate cool water trough the radiator and it cools his place about 10 degrees celcius on a hot day |
Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
swamp coolers are useless in iowa. the humidity is so high that your sweat doesnt even evaporate. it is misery. here in the fiery high desert swamp coolers can actually make you shiver. i still prefer the beauty of refrigerated air though.
