no, what happened with yours?? this had me stressed out!!! i gotcha... read my mind! also a side note, the trans pan is perfectly level too. 1 thing though... the tranny is off from side to side right at an 1/8th inch... really close. i might loosen the motor and see if i can move it over a little. my ocd gets the best of me sometimes

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

what do i put on the middle vent tube on the sending unit? anybody have a pic of what they used?

today i'm going to take a ride out to pick n pull in search of a passengerside inner fender, wire harness out of an '87 for the switching valve and tanks, and take a look at some modern leather bucket seats at Rancho. i also recieved te extended floor pan from captkaos and it wasnt what i had expected... he's going to send me the reg. sized one so i can cut out the brace the goes to the rocker and extend mine. good times:metal:

glock35ipsc 03-11-2010 11:20 AM

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

I had thought about using a couple of one-way vents that I had bought for my 68, but I couldn't find them at the time, so I just capped them off. I haven't had any problems so far.

Looks nice Dennis!!!
Coming right along.
That color is very nice also.

What is the Story on the twist tite hose?
How does it work?

LMDGUY 03-11-2010 11:32 AM

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

that kinda looks like EFI fuel line with high preasure clamps.. is that the Summit stuff?

menace121978 03-11-2010 11:37 AM

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

thats it guys. summit has something called twist-tite hoses and fittings. its rated at something crazy like 250psi. you dont need the fittings they sell just the clamps for fuel injection. the hose is pretty cheap but it was on back order for over a month.

I was thinking of using this

or this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GAS-T...item35a7059b88

although Bob's option is cheaper.......

glock35ipsc 03-11-2010 12:22 PM

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

Dennis - that 2nd option is what I sent you in my PM just a bit ago. They aren't necessary, but sure won't hurt to run them.

As for the Twist Tite hose, you can use it with regular FI hose clamps for connections to the sending unit, switch valve, etc. They also have their own AN fittings for them that do not require clamps. Just push in the fitting and it is done! This is what I used initially for my fuel system. I just placed an order with Summit for SS braided line to replace that long piece I ran from the filter to the fuel rail. I am also going to reroute the trans cooler lines so I can get the AC compressor installed!

Progress is looking good Dennis. Those inner fenders look amazing. Was Amy upset that you made her sleep on the couch that night?

54Caddy 03-11-2010 10:17 PM

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

HAHAH sleep on the couch. Man when i went to dennis's house he had a room just for his parts lucky guy ahaha. A dennis is the line-x for your inner fenders as well i know you wanted the bottom of the cab done this way. also color looks damn good.

Re: Finally "Silvers" build thread!! ('78 swb 2wd silverado)

man, my buddy showed me some special undercoating they use at his shop and i was amazed! i had him do the underside of the inner fenders and i'm going to have him do the underside of the cab with it also. the stuff is really nice!

i picked up some parts today at pick n pull today! i found a CLEAN passengerside inner fender, the chrome trim on the lower part of the '79 grille, and i got the wire harness out of an '87 for the fuel sending units and switching valve:D i'll post up a few pics in a bit.

oh yea also picked up the radiator cover piece that bolts to the core support! looks beautiful!!! he also undercoated the bottom of that too!

How long is that piece? do you know how many pieces, if more than one, to the switch on the dash?

Dennis,
You are making some serious progress on your engine install! It's always amazing how fast things go with the ducks in line. Wish I was this disciplined about our builds.

its 3 pieces. 1 to the sending units and switching valve. then 4 wires from there go along the frame rail to the firewall plug.(3 go the the plug and the 4th goes into the fuseblock. then the piece thats under the dash to the switch. (4wires)
