Well people the reason for no update on my truck, is I've been busy painting in the house. Plus I have agreed to help a friend install a Lokar shifter and indicator; and FiTech efi; and cruise control on his 71 Olds Cutlass. There are a few electrical things that also need attention. Plus I've been changing over my florescent tubes to LED tubes. I did a right up on what I had to do, if you want to check it out, heres the link; http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=726577 I will get started on mine soon I promise...Jim

All my paint products were PPG. Epoxy primer, high build primer, and sealable primer. Top coat is single stage Acrylic Urethane, no clear...Jim

Jim, I read your LED conversion, well done. I'm tired of failed lighting and will convert about 15 fixtures. Thanks.

Your truck is still looking great after the 25,000 miles Jim. I just hope mine will look as good when I reach that many. Looking forward to seeing you get it back together.

Well, was finally able to get out to the shop for a little work on the inner fender.

Pic 1 Thought about cutting in the bend for more strength and less warping, but Mark pointed out that the fender was also tweaked behind the fender brace, so I cut it back farther where it was OK.

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Pic 1 New inner fender, marked for cutting back farther, so it can be trimmed to fit the old inner.

Pic 2 Have a good 3/4 section of left inner fender.

Will sure save a ton of time sectioning it in too. No doubt it will be good as you had made it (better than new) soon.

How is the quality of the new inner?

Doug, quality of inner is pretty good, a little thinner, but still a good piece...Jim

Hey troops, not much of an update, but it's something. Had this work done for about 2 weeks, but just now took pics.

Pic 1 I bolted the old part of inner back in place, and the new inner in it's location.

Pic 2 Checked that the radiator support holes, lined up and the front apron.

Pic 3 Push panels together scripe a line, take back out, cut and tack together for another fit.

That's it on my stuff, put I will post some other work I've been doing...Jim

If you don't remember, back on post #962 I said I would be working on a friends 71 Olds. Will I've been working on it off and on for 2 weeks. Removed his old B&M shifter (not working good at all), and replaced it with a Lokar unit. I didn't show anything on that, it's been done enough. But Ed decided he wanted the light up indicator also (more for his wife, not him). Anyhow this thing takes a little time to get everything in place, run cable to trans, adjust the spring on the sensor arm, etc. Then to program the controller etc. Here's a few pic on that part...Jim

Pic 1 Location chosen inside his console, for cable, sensor and controller.

Pic 2 Two different wire groups to hook into the controller.

Pic 3 All wires tied into the controller. The green light (looks yellow) shows it's in Park, each time you move the shifter to another position, the red will change to green for that gear and light up the indicator on console.

Pic 4 Indicator showing in Park, will change as started above.

Still have a few little things to finish up, install boot, storage box in console, etc. We should start on installing FiTech system next week. Will take pics, etc and post when we start. I will insert a link, so you can follow along if you want. Ed's will have the command center, which is different that mine...Jim

This truck is so cool. The matching painted frame and convertible top are outstanding. Truck was perfection but the silver lining is that to get to freshen things up. Standing by for updates...

hope you are not using the fuel command center on the fitech install I had one installed and it kept boiling the fuel, changed it and went with their frame rail pump it works great.

Your right, heard both good and bad about the comman center, but he wants it, so I will try it. I have the frame mount pump on mine and it works great...Jim

Thanks Kees, I do enjoy helping friends, some don't have the knowledge or skills for what they want done, so I help them out and they learn that sometimes you just have to give it a try...Jim

Sorry I'm so late posting up the final pics of Ed's shifter install.

Pic 1 and 2 are of the finished console, shifter, indicator, etc.
Pic 3 is his dash, I had removed a bad digital dash and installed these Speedhut gauges...Jim

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

I need some input from everyone. Started installing Ed's FiTech unit with a Command Center. My question is should I post this in the engine section, or someplace else. I don't think the LS swap is correct even if it is fuel injection. Let me know what you think...Jim
