The other work on the truck - far beyond anything I could imagine - is being done by a local transmission re-builder and his associated vendors, due back after the 13th and untold hundreds of dollars.

Is that what you mean? :smoke:

Oh - okay - no problem:

February 8th, 2008 - sometime between midnight and 4AM, a crew of guys hit four trucks (60-66) in my neighborhood. 63' short/fleet around the corner had it's ignition ripped out and battery run down - owner had the coil wire in his garage. Mine was the only one they got - supposedly by drilling out the lock on The Club, pushing the truck around the corner - down the hill and then starting her from there.

Drove her to a warehouse in Santa Ana (15 miles from my place), to join 7 others, of various years (again 60-66) and about twelve 40-foot trailer's worth of stolen parts of the same vintage.

The head thief - an American citizen - was using illegal aliens from south of the border to go out in crews and snake all this stuff for him and had been under surveillance for a while by the OC Sheriff. My truck was the last he got and they blew the whole scene up in a huge raid.

Truck sat in evidence until Memorial Day - 2008.

DA told the illegals she wasn't interested in turning them over to INS if they (about a dozen at the time) wanted to turn state's. They sang like canaries and were released immediately.

The next working day I paid the tow truck driver a c-note and he drove my truck back to my house from the Sheriff's evidence yard.

My "friend" got 8 years in the state pen. I'm going to get copies of the really relevant pictures of this build and mail it to him as a Christmas present in California Institution for Men (CIM) - Chino.

Re: The 283 Rebuild Begins

I build about 8 - 10 cars a year.ive had very limited luck on rebuilds it seems that everyone knows how to build a sbc
problem is they all "sort of" know how to build a small block
they all take short cuts.that's why i try to use crate or factory pullouts.you will spend $2 grand on a cheap rebuild.for about the same amount you can buy a pullout from a late 90's f body
ls1 or ls6 with a trans .ive done this a lot and i will tell you from experiance you will dbl the money you get if you sale the thing .just a thought ,by the way the last car a 68 chevelle i put one in got a lil over 27 mpg that dont suck eather.

Yeah - I won't do it again. It was fun, but only because I had the 65' Chevelle to drive to work in the mean time. I think I'll do the modern power-plant routine on the next build, but I have to sell or rebuild the 350 and 327 engines I have on dollies first.

According to the OC Sheriff's office - it rarely, if ever happens that way on these old classics. Usually the're skipped out-of-state or south of the border.

This idiot, for some drug-related reason, took my perfectly good straight six and TH350 out of the truck - threw them in the bed, and proceed to put a 283 V-8 and old granny farmer's 3-speed in the vehicle.

My re-builder said he'd never seen a block with so many cracks. I have no answers for why Mr. 3-Time-Loser did what he did to my fine old truck.

Yeah that makes no sense, I guess some people just have V8 on their mind and really have no idea about anything else. On a side note, and apologies I am not trying hijack the thread but will a TH350 bolt up to an L6 without too much problems?
