Got the primer coat of paint on today. Will put the final paint on Monday. Then the storage area is done, time to start organizing the K5 barn!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Got the rebuilt inner heater box put back together and painted. My 70 had the plastic part on the end where it mounts to the firewall. One tab/bolt was broken off, so I bought a nice metal one from Sharpie awhile back. 69/70 used the metal, and 71/72 used the plastic. I took the two setups and built one for my rig. I also restored the remaining parts to make another good one with the plastic piece. Look real good all painted and ready to go! I'll take some pic's!

OK! Went up to CHAOS off road tonight. John is almost done swapping another motor into the jeep, a small block is replacing the big block for now. Ready to drag my 1 ton axles up this week and get started on this finally! I am pumped! John has to get exhaust work done on 2 jeeps tommorrow and it is on!

Started stripping the old paint and undercoating off of the rear inner wheel wells yesterday. Going the cheap way and doing it my self, using paint stripper and sandpaper. Got one almost ready for final sanding. Pair of inner wells I picked up from Sharpie off a western K5 a while back! Will clean the other one up, prime them both, and get painted black-ready to go!

Ok, been a lot of talk but it is about to go in motion tommorrow! Had a long talk with John tonight, and it's time to get going on this. He's bringing the wrecker rollback over and extracting the Dana60 frt, and the 14 blt corp rear axle out of my garage to go up to his shop. 3 doors up from my house, (really convienent), I can walk there anytime! Gonna start with the axles and see what really needs some $$ before install. Might just spend half of my vacation in August working on the K5! Will get some pic's!

Man you have a lot of parts. Are the twin sticks for the transfer case to make it be able to engage either axle? I hope you get your bumper fixed up. It looks nice. I hated reading about all the trouble it caused.

Yes, axles are completely torn down. Not that bad. Shafts are good, inner and outer, bearing races are all good, bearings all cleaned up and good to go. Gonna sandblast everything and replace all the seals and axle joints, etc! Of course fresh paint! Very happy, no major problems yet, here's some pic's!Attachment 961355

It's great that your project is moving along. It helps to motivate me to get my butt into gear and go out and wrench on mine.

Pife, no twin sticks yet, just extra parts. Thinking about it though. Got 99% of the parts delivered today, just missing one seal. My friend John has so many projects going, here's a couple pic's of the parts that showed up today!Attachment 961836

No progress on axles today, swapping the jeep over from major big block/mud bogger to small block street-maybe legal 4x4 is taking longer than he thought. Don't get me wrong, it's almost ready, went for a short ride tonight, it was awesome! Working on customers stuff in between, should have some progress tommorrow!

Good progress. I just had my D60 hot tanked a few days ago and need to put some paint on it and start assembly.

Getting some stuff done. Early you talked about a twin stick transfer case. I know that you don't have one yet. I am trying to figure out what the two sticks are for? Thanks. Sorry about the bad wording of my question. How much lift are you planing on running?

Thank's guy's! I am so excited that things are actually ripping on this project after so long! Checked in at CHAOS today and looks like we have a slight delay. Lower part of steering knuckles have a needle bearing and seal that needs to be replaced-both sides on the dana60. Rare part I'm told, about a week to get them at about $200.00! Also, sandblaster shop guy is on vacation for a few days, but it's all good! So far about $600.00 into front and rear rebuild, including the lower bearing kits. Oh, that doesn't account for the $$ spent on Ballistic high steer/crossover, and the rear disc conversion. But it is awesome to see some progress on this, and I have a few months here before the snow flies. Looking at October as a trail run date, so am staying focused on this project! I will post up some some pic's asap!

Thas seems high for the lower kingpin bearing and race... let me look around... there is a link to a parts list...

here is a link ..

here is one example... $70 per side ... there are also master rebuild kits... I guess it depends on what you were getting for the $200.

So far, I did a search, and gonna stay with my local brother and go CHAOS! Lower king pin rebuild kits for both sides, 2 bills- hopefully-1 time!

I'm back. Been on vacation out on the Muskegon river with family and friends for our annual camp trip! Checked in with CHAOS off road, and axle upgrades are coming along nicely. Update early this week, turns out the 14 bolt corp has a GOV lock in it-sweet! Good for now, until lower gear swap! Had so much fun this week, John brought the Jeep out for some trailrides, very fun! Will get some pic's soon of the Dana60 and corp14 bolt coming together!
