Re: Nostalgia - Pics in Time.
Cool pic, has alot of 60 & 63 parts. They used the fleetside bed trim on the cab, a 63 grill...but all factory parts. Nice custom

Re: Nostalgia - Pics in Time.
I don't think I've ever seen a tractor rig like that running what look like car tires/wheels. More common to see big rig wheels/tires. Very interesting job of customizing.

What do you suppose these guys are up to? Looks like it might be a '61 GMC going by the 61 in the upper corner of the license plate.

Straight out of hotrod magazine. Here's ine. Y'all gotta look real close there's a two tone GMC in the background and two chevy trucks.

Re: Nostalgia - Pics in Time.
That looks like a woman on the far right helping the guys with the engine. You don't see that very often.
I think that is what they call 'grassroots wrenchin' |

Re: Nostalgia - Pics in Time.
I posted one earlier in the thread and just noticed that the dragster had a Chevrolet dealer in Renton Washington.

Re: Nostalgia - Pics in Time.
Im new to this forum, I drive a 66. I like all the old school pics, how do I post one? I'm technically challenged. Can I do it from my smartphone?
|
Re: Nostalgia - Pics in Time.
Yes you can. I do it all the time. Look in the bottom left corner of the thread and you'll see the post reply butt9n. Click that and it'll pull up the reply window and then at the bottom manage attachments. Go there and add away pal. Welcome to the forum and hope to see some pictures of your rig.

Goldmine Number 2?
I just acquired this photo taken February 8th 1960. Fleet of new GMCs leaving the GMC Truck & Coach Division in Pontiac Michigan heading to dealership across the country. Would love to have been driving one of those tow rigs!:gmc2: |
Re: Nostalgia - Pics in Time.
Very cool photo, guy on the left looks like a cross between Fred Mertz from I love Lucy! & Broderic Crawford from Highway Patrol, 10-4? Think the salesman has his work cut out for him.

Re: Nostalgia - Pics in Time.
Can you imagine how much it took to get rigs off the lines back then? No loading and staging yards just out of the shop and closing down streets and convoying out across the country. By the way, great find and love the two cracker box trucks in that one.

I can't imagine what it would have taken to just work out the logistics involved with planning this type of convoy. I guess this was and maybe still is the best way to tow cab & chassis style trucks via piggy back. You can see the lead 3500 GMC truck has a set of wheels with hubcaps attached strapped on the chassis behind the cab which I assume belong to the first truck behind it. I cropped the photo to zoom in on the back ground and you can actually see there is a traditional car (or in this case truck) carrier hauling 4 stepside trucks. Think there may be a suburban in the middle of the pack too just to the left of the right side cracker box rig. The more I study the photo the more trucks I see!
