well, i tell ya, this was NOT my week....big hrs at work, big injury bills....
i think i mite have mentioned once or twice about all the work i've had done on my teeth in the last couple yrs, well 4 yrs of pain & around 8 or 9 grand went strait down the tubes yesterday...... and then some...wanna talk murphy's law?
going up the ladder yesterday, someone yelled look out, looked up just in time to see a carpenters 30 oz framing hammer nail me (sick pun...) right in the face.....more specifically, my mouth....kinda a yucky picture, took this after i got back from the dentist, yeah, i'm still dirty, went right from the job to the dentist. $851 for emergency
Attachment 1588374

got a fat lip, pretty sure i swallowed the bottom tooth, snapped the top one in half, and the 2 on the right top & 1 on the top left beside the half tooth, broke completely threw. the dentist shoved them back up & now i got big chunks of wire & glue behind them temp holding them in till work can start. they are not savable- broke completely threw. almost impossible to eat, even grinding my food into a pulpy mash aint working.....she's telling me i will need 3 root canals & 2 bridges....ya-frikin-hoo....
and she will also need thousands of dollars. my boss, who is a stand up guy, will pick up the tab for everything. neither of us wants to go threw all the bs of WCB crap, so i'm completely good with that. takes some of the sting out, but dont really do much for all the needles i know are coming...lol
going back in tomorrow for a 5hr "visit" oh boy.....
off work for a few, so i'm hoping to get some stuff on the blaze done, if i can keep my lips from draggin' on the floor
i had just primered the int in prep for color before this happened, not much, but it's all i got. i was able to do something simple today, i cut out the hummer's roof

I ordered 4 sets, 49" Iroc, 44" boggers, 37" Truxus MTs and some "offroad tires" that are baja claws I think. But none of the tires are true to size. The Irocs and boggers are bigger than most tires, but not true to scale. Not to mention skinny as hell. The other two are smaller than many current box tires, so I was pretty bummed when I did some comparing. But I see you get your tires from BNL, how do they stack up? Looks like they are truer to scale. I have all these kits, and no time!!! Or place to do it where my 1.5 year old boy won't get into them. I went to local model show and picked up a crew cab to match my 99, just gotta find all the pieces....

thanks b454rat!
i too would love to get a 1:1 '66
i buy all of my tires from from these 3 guys.
BNL, as you mentioned, the sizes are good & fairly accurate, but he uses open molds of some sort, so you have to completely clean up the back of the tire.
ScenesUnlimited, he has very nice tires & rims. his tires are rubber- no resin.
sizes are very good & accurate, he actually takes the time to correct a lot of tire defects, like the revell groundhawgs, 2 of the tires are backwards, he corrects stuff like that so you have 4 properly labeled, properly directional tires. he just finally released some beautiful skinny luggers, only stock size (around scale 31"er's) but i will be ordering some if our crap dollar can ever be worth anything....
some of the best tires, in my opinion, comes from FireballModelworks
his tires are extremely accurate, detail & size wise. he does his tires in some kind of "rubber" that feel just like real tires, there flexible & i think he does some kind of injection molding, the tires come with just 1 tiny nub on the tread from being cast, no "around the tire seams" to sand off. he also does very nice 3-d stuff, i buy gm truck door handles from him
check out the detail & quality
Attachment 1588390Attachment 1588391

i have bought multiple sets of his bfg krawlers, they really are a beautiful tire, only downside is 35"er's is all there is. some bigger ones would be nice....
Attachment 1588392

even has "weighted" tires for that kind of look
Attachment 1588398

here's them door handles i was telling you about. and their cheap-$3 bucks for a rack of 4 sets
Attachment 1588399

and yeah, just finding everything you need for a truck build is half the challenge! and how true, when my rugrat was young, he "re-arranged" the sheetmetal on a nice 1/16 '57 chev i had built....:metal:

Ouch...take it easy and get all fixed up. I'm glad you stayed on the ladder and make things worse.

been roofing so long, instinct took over right away, clamped on to that ladder like you would'nt belive
smashed teeth and ringing bells are much better than falling 20 feet to the concrete i guess.....
countdown is on, 11:00 am, going in for the first visit of probably many...ewhhh!

welp, the dentist visit was not bad at all today...
of the 3 teeth that got knocked loose, (she showed me the x-rays, they came out 4.8 mm, 3 mm is considered a pull-out...) one for sure can be saved, it's tightened right up, the other 2, still not sure, a little tighter, but still broke through. she thinks one of them may be "knitting" itself..so no work today. she does not want to disturb it just yet, so next friday the re-constructive stuff starts. still sucks i got to walk around for a week with some dumb-ass wire stuck in my mouth....
but i did get a couple things done. got some bodywork on the hummer.
dont know how a chopper is supposed to lift yer hummer from the mud bog with these sling hooks...proper ones going on
Attachment 1588774

filled in some military holes, chopped off the low mount air cleaner, be putting a proper hummer snorkel on it, and opened up the front wheelwells a few mils for more even clearance on the swamps.

a little base paint on some stuff. rims are the truck color, and my longer snork

hope the wife don't see this....get any idea's...
the hummer is a pretty basic truck, so it's going a lot faster than the blaze. did manage to suck the wheels in a bit, but still getting flares

pretty much cant bite anything Dale, doc figures a couple months or so before i should be able to bite decently.....try to eat on my back teeth, but when yer chewing & your teeth touch together......jeez, nasty pain threw the 3 that got knocked out and are trying to get home....literally just toss the food down my gullet, dont really get to enjoy the taste, but hoping fri she can get something going...
and i AM getting some stuff done around the house (hunger does that...lol)
hummer went together pretty fast. it's simple, but i like 'em. thinking i mite lower the lite bar a bit more..

For a snap together you got amazing detail on it. I agree on lowering the light bar. The Blazer interior looks fantastic.

little more blazer stuff...
300 horse 350. battery cables look a little big, smallest wires i got left. thinking i'll have to take apart another old cassette deck in the shop...

spent a few hrs working on rims. the rim lip fits in the hole, but there was a gap around the rest allowing it to rock, so they got a strip of styrene. the inners (from the kit) i cut the mounting hub off, drilled 'em out for my axles, then had to sleeve them with 2 strips of 015, one piece of 030 was to thick too bend nice and round. the rears i added brake backing plates, the fronts will be disc. also had to sleeve the steelie spare rim to fit the tire wit 2 strips of 015 as well
Attachment 1590983

first coat of primer, little more bodywork to do...

I didn't notice the snorkle. I went back and looked, it's not that bad. Blazer engine and body are looking good. Those wheels are a lot of work but I bet they come out nice.

yeah, them wheels took a few hrs to do...lol
then i did'nt even use the steelie for the spare, found a chrome spoke, using it instead
pluggin'along.....
Attachment 1593552Attachment 1593554Attachment 1593555

made a spare tire mount for the bumper, but i aint going to use it. without the topper on to visually shorten the truck, it looked weird hanging off the bumper- way too long, too much overhang....so made a quick little mount for inside the truck
Attachment 1593556 Attachment 1593557

hoping to splash some color on the body today or tomorrow..

had a couple screw-ups with the blaze. the dana 20 was to small for the lift and put the d-shaft right threw the trans crossmember and a couple other things. the '72's could come with a 205, so that's what it got and it clears everything beautifully now
Attachment 1594520

same wit the steering, crossover was hitting everything....so, dropped pitman & draglink, & a raised steering arm with a small steering block under it
Attachment 1594521

halfway threw the paint, third coat, one more, then clear it up. something oily must have got on the hood. tried to paint my way out of it, made a mess, tried sanding it out, bigger mess, so it's in the stripper right now, will try it again...
Attachment 1594506Attachment 1594507

but i'm loving the stripper right now, check out most of the '50....happy with how clean it came out, just have to clean up the glue joints

yup, i was impressed with how clean this one came out, no sanding...yayyy!
well i was going to finish the blaze today or tomorrow, but now i'm having a conundrum with it....just scored some parts for a blazer today, right out of the blue, was not even really lookin'....
the '72 grille came with the kit, the '69 i just scored. the '72 bumper & grille are separate pieces, the '69 is all one, but the pass corner is damaged, so cut it off & use the kit bumper. decisions....:smoke:
Attachment 1594746

and usually a fan of base line trucks, no chrome or trim.....and i went and sanded all the molded trim off the blaze...look what else i got....hmmmmm tempting.
Attachment 1594748

and a topper. pretty good shape, was black, hit it with some white....
Attachment 1594749

also got some mirrors, the kit dont come with any (?!?) set of stock tires & tinted glass. any thoughts on any of this.
purdy sure i'm liking the '69'er...

I though nk the 69 grill just to be different. I would use the side trim too. I would leave the roll bar loose so you can change your display every now and then.

great minds think alike!
exactly what i was thinkin'..
overall i was not really impressed with the re-issue, like they could have fixed some things...this thing fought me big time during assembly, dont know why, trialed everything first...
check out the gap when the body hits the frame...what the?? you can see my glue right thru this thing.
