Re: My 57 Pro Street
I can appreciate the work you have done so far on the cab. I'm at the same stage with smoothing seams. Great build.

Re: My 57 Pro Street
Spent a few hours reading back your whole build...did someone allready said you are a true Craftsman??? ;)
I learned a lot only from looking at your pics! It's like a book you must have when you have a TF truck!! So, keep building, so I can read it with pleasure!! Great truck!!! |

I wish I was better at body work. What takes me hours I'm sure a pro could do in no time. Quote:

A little up-date.
Been getting into the body work. I have the cab tilted on its back so it's a little easier to work on the roof. I welded up the over hang and filled it in. Then to the roof itself. It was in pretty decent shape. A couple pics after epoxy and a little sanding. You can see it needs a little work. Kim |

I got some Slick Sand.
This stuff is really thick but makes it easy to get the whole surface covered. I hit with some 80 grit and then used dry guide coat. This stuff went on real easy and gets into the finest of scratches. A lot more sanding and then another couple coats of epoxy and it looks pretty good. Will have do do a final sanding and then seal before paint. Kim |
Re: My 57 Pro Street
Really taking shape, nice work. Who makes slick sand..Jim

Re: My 57 Pro Street
Ahhh, I remember those days, priming, sanding, priming, sanding........
Looking good, carry on. Jim |
Re: My 57 Pro Street
Looking really good Kim. Just a question because I'm at a similar state on my build, but why more epoxy over the slick sand rather than go straight to sealer? Jim - I'd hope you remember those days, you've been living them for quite some time now haven't you

Re: My 57 Pro Street
Right on!
Good to see an update again Kim! Hope all goes well now? |

Re: My 57 Pro Street
Good looking progress on your roof. I love SlickSand - I'm just a couple of years away from needing it on my project! Have you decided on a paint color?
|
Re: My 57 Pro Street
I have been using Urofill, not as thick a build up as Slickcoat, but thicker than regular primer, and compatible with 2K sealer.

Right now I'm leaning toward a light metalic blue that chevelle's were painted in the mid 60s although that may change. Quote:

Re: My 57 Pro Street
Kim, I am glade to see you are making progress, thank you for your comments on my project. I see you are using a dry guide coat are you wet or dry sanding and can you do both?
|
Re: My 57 Pro Street
Looking good I hate body work!

Not sure how wet sanding would work with the dry guide coat. It may just rinse it off. As you can tell I'm new at this part of the build. Quote:
Waiting for the weather to get a little warmer so I can get back at it. Kim |

Another point about block sanding that can lead to mistakes is this. Let the sand paper do the work. In other words don't muscle and push down hard while sanding. Just let the black guide across the panel in an x pattern. Applying pressure will lead to problems. |

You always have great info on how to do this stuff. The cold weather kept me from wanting to spray any epoxy so it slowed my progress some. How's your truck coming? Kim |

My truck? Well as you know its been cold and I could not shoot either, but I got a little done this weekend, the first weekend I've worked on the truck in a very long time. |
My 57 Pro Street
Hello Kim.
First, I would like to congratulate you on a spectacular build! I have gotten a lot of great ideas just from reviewing your thread. I would also like to thank you for spending the time to document everything on this forum! Could I ask you how much you ended up narrowing your rear axle? I am also curious what the width and backspacing of the rims you decided to go with. I am sorry for all of the questions. I am planning on doing something similar to my truck. I have taken all of the necessary measurements and drawn a section of the truck at the rear end and believe I know what I need to do, but still want to double check before investing the money to narrow a perfectly good rear end! Thanks for any information you can provide. |

Give me a few days to get that info for you as I have to uncover the frame. I have it pushed out of the way right now. Kim |

The back spacing on my wheels is 4.5". My tires are 29x18.50x15. They are a little close to the inner fenders so I will be going to 29x16.50x15 when I get it on the road. The tires I have now are too old to run any way even though they have zero miles on them. I originally had wheels with more back spacing but they wouldn't fit over my disc brakes. Kim |
Re: My 57 Pro Street
Thank you for taking the time to check, Kim.
That will help as I only want to narrow the rear end once! |
Re: My 57 Pro Street

Re: My 57 Pro Street
WOW - new to the board and going through build threads and this one just ate up a good few hours reading through. Amazing the focus on these builds my attention span is way to short.
Awesome work excited to see the final product!!:metal::metal::metal: |
