:lol: yeah that stuff is tricky on a verticle surface. You ever hear of dolphine glaze? Its the same stuff only about half the price. You probably know i just figured i would share in case you didnt. ;)

I agree on being tricky on a verticle surface, especially in the summer. There are some guys in the shop that use dolphine glaze. I'll try it the next time I need a skim coat. I didn't know there was a big price difference.

I think of it as being a sprayable filler comparable to a skim coat. The last time I bought some it was cheaper than regular epoxy primer and has a high build.

Find your local bodyshop supply and check with them. I think it requires a 1.8 tip on your gun. It is very thick. I'm not saying it's right, but I reduced it down with reducer to make it spray a little easier. On autobodytoolmart.com it's 61.99. Here is a LINK

Thanks Allan. I tried to buy it here at the paint store and they said it was discontinued.:hc: So much for the money I made today. Any ideas on where I would get a lock for my glove box. Do they have LMC for 59 Impala's?:crazy:

I think the metal glaze is close to $30 of that sqeeze bottle, the dolphine glaze is like $12.. its in like a bag/pouch and close to the same quantity.

Might have to do a mail order. Here is a LINK for a glove box lock.

I majored Architecture, and Commercial Art. What do I do??? Become a Mechanic :metal: I'm not sorry though. My friend is a Architect, and I was making more money than he was, besides I can repair my own car, which saves me a lot of money.:thumbs:

LOL I know what you mean I went from paramedic to shop manager (there was school and tech work in the middle there too) but i like what i do and i like to be in the shop.

Getting more done. The cab is almost sanded. I have a few little areas that still need to be sanded. If it wasn't for Mothers day I might could have it painted this weekend, at least the orange. Then I will go back and two tone it.

I mounted the seat brackets. I glued the floor reinforcements on with 3M 8515 panel bond and bolted it all together so it can set up. When I install the carpet I will remove the seat brackets so hopefully the floor reinforcements will stay in place.

When I grow up and get a 2 car garage of my very own I'm going to be a madman. Frame off restoration will be when I know I've arrived.

I can't stress how much I've learned from this thread that I'll carry with me for life most likely. Can't wait to use it..

Thanks Dave, I'm glad that people find this thread educational. In our jobs no matter if your a doctor, home builder or mechanic we get so use to what we do in our daily jobs and I myself thinks that others know just as much as I do or more about bodywork. The fact is it ain't true for the most part. I'm like ya'll if I had to build a house. I would be asking and watching others do their job and adapt their practices into something I can use. I never realized that I could ever help anyone thru the internet. I agree with Dennis (strodder), I'm always trying to learn everyday.

hey allen Im having a problem that I have never run into.... My studs will not stick to the tailegate.. Im useing a stud welder but they just wont stick. I have tried a 3m wheel. scotch brite. 80 grit. 180 grit and cleaning it.. nothing works.. any ideas

What kind of pins are you using and how long are you holding the trigger? Do they just fall off or do they come off when your pulling on them?

Im using 2.0 and 2.5 mm I have usualy I hold it till I see just a little bit of light peak out... that usally works. so I have tried longer and shorter times. I have triled leaving the guns there a few seconds to cool... I just dont know

yeah thats what I dont understand. on the same truck too. I just cleaned up the door. I have a nasty dent on the bottom of the tail gate. and I want to get that pulled out. If that dosnt work then Im goin to cut it out and weld in a patch...

The only thing I can think of is the alloy content in the tailgate is different. I'm not a metalurgist, but I've had that problem on some new cars. YOu are using new pins right? I've tried to reuse pins and for the most part it doesn't work. The tips get contaminated. Try grinding the tips down just a little and see what that does, just curious. If you do cut out the damaged area are you hammering it into shape and welding it back in? As long as it is not rusted.

i think I am goin to re skin it..well I am goin to cut out the chevrolet. then move it to the outside then skin it so i looks kinda like a new tailgate. but with the old letters

if i cut it out I think i could just fab a whole new bottom using pipe for the curve and just brake at the two seams. would be stroger and clean

That's to funny. I was just using my stud gun and I was having a hell of a time getting it to stick to the new metal I welded on. It worked good on the orginal door metal but on the new stuff I had to hold the trigger forever. I did get it to stick but it was a pain.:metal:

Didn't get much done over the weekend. Sdailey came over and helped finish sanding the cab and taped up some of it. I finished modifying the cab lift bar so it will go a little lower and finished taping it up.

As the lift goes up and down it will tear the plastic some. I will just have to patch it as I go. I'm hoping to get it at a good height so I can paint the bottom pretty easy.
