I vote for the engine section with a link to it posted here.

Engine section or maybe the Alternate Tinkering section??
And as Doug said, a link to it here.

Back on 1/24 I showed a small update on my truck. I had taken the two pieces off that day, and they have been sitting in the shop. Today Mark trimed the black piece and tack welded it together and put in back on the truck. It fits good and lines up nicely. He will finish welding it together then I can start doing some more work on getting it ready...Jim

Here's a couple pics.

The repair looks great. After paint, no one would be any the wiser if you hadn't shared all of the pictures with us...ha ha

They will be good repairs. Bolting in place and then welding to verify positioning is a great idea. Jim, those inner are a work of art.

Well then you shouldn't have "aimed" for the deer!

(Sorry, I couldnt resist. Your repairs are WAY better than you'd have gotten at any garden variety autobody shop your insurance would have had you use.)

Repair looks really good so far!
Expert level!!

Maybe a dumb question...in your last photo is an electronic device.
Is this a Cruise Control computer? If so, what brand and how is it hooked up inside cab to operate it?
I was looking for a CC but haven't found the right one for me...

Lower, I was surprized that they were gone. I did a check for the Smartline AP500 unit, and it seems they are no longer making a universal kit. They have a 9000 unit but its for newer cars. There is another company that has a decent unit, I will check tomorrow and get back to you both...Jim

Hey guys, here's a link to Haywire that has a unit very close to what I have, may want to check it out. I've got one of their old catalogs and it sells for around $225.00 Hope this helps..Jim http://www.haywireinc.com/index.cfm/...=cat/cat19.htm

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Thank's Marc.

It just takes practice (and messing things up and redoing) to get metal work dialed in! The nice thing is if it gets messed up you can cut and re weld ;)

Mark.

Thanks Jim!! This is a nice set!
Bummer they don't sell this in Holland, but they do sell in the UK :metal:
So we will search (or call Jack Hammer to take one to the Hot Rod Hayride;))
All the sets they sell overhere are with a "modern" switch, I don't like that.
And Thanks Lower for pointing out the page!!

Inner fender almost ready...welded by Mark?? Is he ever at home??? Doing nothing .....;)

Thanks Kees, best of luck on being able to get one, thru you connections.
Yes welded by Mark. Only on Sunday, he takes a break. His last question he will have to answer...Jim

Hey folks. This is a round about way of saying I have a small update on the rebuild. The left front fender I purchased for repairs, was worse that I had thought, after thinking about the blasting, etc., my son Mark (reaper71) said the metal would be real thin, and questionable for repairs.

So, I called LEEVON in Springfield to see if he had any extra fenders. He didn't, we talked about the swap meet that was being held this past week-end and I might be able to find a fender there. So Mark and I thought we might go. I then decided to call Doug (Advance Design) to see if he had anything. Doug said he had picked up a good pair and would be willing to let me have the left one. Price was discussed and he would check on shipping and get back with me.

Next thing I know, Doug called and said he and his wife would bring it to me. They needed to make a road trip, and we had wanted to get together, so it was on. (Note: Doug and I have talked on the phone several times, and we have PM'ed each other countless times over the last year or so). We finally met late Friday. On Saturday, Doug and his beautiful wife Cindy came back to the house. Doug and Cindy are the type of people than when you met them, that it seems you have known each other for years. They also met my son Mark, and looked over some of his projects. The fender Doug brought was great, nice solid piece. So I said here's the money. Doug said it was a gift from them. I said No that isn't right, Cindy explained gift giving and said I had to accept. So I did and I gifted Doug in return. Everyone happy.

It is had to put into words, this feeling I have, for this great couple to go out of their way too, not only give me a fender, but drive 5 hours to deliver. God had our paths cross for a reason, so I will wait for my turn. All I can say is, if they call and need anything, I will drop what I'm doing and get there as soon as I can. Doug and Cindy, THANKS for coming into my life. Love you both...Jim

Oh yeah, here's a pic. I'm the old goat on the left, then Cindy and Doug.

Ok, this update is showing the two fenders I have. The old rusty one I picked up just north of were I live. Thought it was OK, and it is, it can be repaired and used, but I wanted something a little better. It was 55 here today, but really windy, so I tried standing up fenders, but it didn't work. First 3 pics are different views of the fenders. Pic 4 shows rusted thru holes and many pin holes. Pic 5 shows rear of fender.

Pic 1 After about 10 minutes I had most of the tar and mud loose on the underside of fender.

Pic 2 After some more scraping and the hand held wire brush, it was down to some old paint. Little water and showed the dark green paint.

Pic 3 Very nice on the underside. A little electric wire wheel, some blasting in the tight spots and it will be ready for encapsilater, primer, bed liner and paint, boy I'm working fast:devil:. I wish, but will keep you updated...Jim

I am glad the fender is going to work out. It was pretty clever how you accepted the gift, then gifted me the money and I had to accept.
