Chad,

Want a partner in the shop? I have run several service facilities and I miss it. :)

That sounds like an awesome idea. I've wanted to have my own shop for quite a while now. Good luck! Truck's looking better with each new pic you post. Keep up the good work.

I'll go by and take some pictures of the place today. It's really a nice shop, I can just see 3 or 4 nice "driver+" quality trucks sitting out front for sale and a couple in the bays. Maybe a Camaro or two waiting their turn. :D

I talked to dad about it yesterday as we were working on my bedwood. We'll see what turns out.

My bed wood is finished up. I am SUPER happy with it. This picture makes it look slightly more orange than it really is, .. I think it may be the lighting in the garage or something.

Anyway .. Check it out. The two pieces that are lifted a little are the ones that will be cut down around the wheel wells. They're only 22.5" long so of the boards that might have been checked or a slight problem we had planned to use them in the smaller pieces. All the boards are still not cut to length (77 1/8), they're about 2 in + right now. All this wood was right out of the mill, so we kinda planned it this way.

Do you guys think there would be a market for pre-cut, and pre-finished bedwood? We can get exotics too .. Humm.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

I pulled the pics off my phone ..

I was just thinking while this shop is not really as wide as I hoped, the added area in the back would be perfect for a paint booth. (?) There is also a brand new wheel lift in the bay near the office. I tried to get a picture of the office / kitchen area .. you can kinda see inside.

I can just see several C10s sitting out front for sale in various counditions, driver, bagged, bone stock, just some rallys .. you get the idea. :D I won't be able to do anything at least not for a while.

It is on a four lane too, .. I just shot a picture from across the street view.

That does look like a perfect shop! Id love to have something like that but you'll have to have a good income stream to pay for a shop that size....a lot less than id pay in my area, but I'm sure still a substantial monthly investment

Silverspeed04 -- You're welcome anytime. You're not that far from me. Are you doing the 2013 HRPT in Chattanooga? June 6th.

We need to get a bunch of trucks together and go. I think Dad and I are planning to either go to Birmingham and catch up with them there, then drive back to Chatt or start in Chatt and drive to Charlotte.

If anyone wants to join us, come on down. Matt (68Stepbed) ??

Come and join up with us. I am taking my black truck and my dad will be in a 1966 GTA/390 Fairlane my grandmother bought new. (Springtime yellow, Mag 500 wheels and redlines, SWEET car) We need to put together a big group and all go together.

They are meeting at Coker Tire in Chattanooga. June 6 2013.

Ok, .. so next question / decision.

Front Bumper guards.. On, or Off ? Smooth bumper?

Rusbuilt 10-24-2012 11:45 AM

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

Personally I only like the guards on a 4wd. I think a lowered 2wd looks better without them!

LEX 10-24-2012 11:48 AM

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

I'd leave them on for now and take them off later if you decide to.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

I took mine off and trashed them not knowing they were worth some money. I would say keep them if it was a LWB.

If I am home from Afghanistan by the 6th, I will probably come down to Nooga and visit during the stop but I am not going to make the tour. I am trying to have the truck in good enough mechanical shape for next years tour as I want to do the whole thing.

Ahh! Thank you sir for your service to our country. My hat's off to you. When you get home, give me a shout and we'll get together somewhere between, maybe Nashville / M'Boro ,etc. Dinner's on me.

I'll be glad to help with the truck too! Get home buddy! Be safe.

Sounds like a plan... I can come all the way to Cleveland though. I'm a driver, love being on the road... And I appreciate your offer to help as well. I am an IT guy so I stay on the computer pretty much all day and after I read all 41 pages of your build and 100+ of some others, I think the only snag I am going to run into is paint and body but a friend of mine pointed me at instructional rental videos and Im pretty good at picking things up as soon as I see it..Gonna start my build thread this evening and state my intentions with the truck.

Billet wheels=smooth bumper. Stock full wheel covers=bumper guards

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

Do they even make a smooth bumper for a GMC? I dont recall ever seeing one. The one on the truck now has a couple holes in it where maybe fog lights once were? I may just pull the guards off and see how it looks.

Re: Project Grande Slam: Coley's Hot Rod Shop

If they dont, you could always insert the bolts. weld them to the back side of the bumper so they stay in place, grind the heads off, do some welding on the front side, smooth everything out and re-chrome it
