A few more.
If y'all ever find yourself in the Summerhill neighborhood of Atlanta, I highly recommend Wood's Chapel BBQ. It was delicious |
Re: Frankentruck
One of my former room mates got married yesterday. Drove Frankentruck from Milledgeville to Newnan and back with only one problem. I was crossing a bridge over Lake Sinclair and ran over something large enough to make the passenger high beam light come back on. I thought it had died completely and was going to replace it, but maybe I won't have to
Something went a little funky with the brakes after that though because the pedal got really stiff and when I got back to the house, I could smell hot brakes around the driver's rear. Guess I'll be taking the drum off later today to investigate |

Well, either a turtle or an armadillo tried to take out my emergency brake cable. After the front tire hit it, it must have popped up and slammed into the cable. That pulled the cable out of the backing plate enough to tighten up the shoes on that side and drag a bit on the rest of the 8 miles home.
Got the cable back into place and all is well. I'm glad it wasn't a broken spring inside the drum! Also, the factory jack has come in handy the past two weeks. |

Messed around with some sunset pictures again. Just my phone with a smidge of editing on the laptop. My parents have a fairly nice camera back at home, so I might have to start using it this summer. My four year old phone is a little behind on the times camera wise

Re: Frankentruck
Looks good...my phone is 6 years old, so you got me beat! LOL

Hang in there, it will all be worth it! In my experience, the study materials are key. I gave up an entire football season's worth of Saturdays attending a prep course, which turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made.
An old mentor of mine shared with me that after he passed the exam, his father said 'now you'll never starve'....that said, there were only 13 FASB's when he got his license  (fellow bean counters will understand :) ) |

As long as I pass each exam on the first try, I'll be done before September rolls around. I'm one for one so far on that plan, so gotta keep studying to make sure that happens. |

Another stage of life has ended, but a new one has just begun. I guess I gotta be an adult now ;) |
Re: Frankentruck
Congratulations Bro.
I don't even know you other than from here on this forum but I am very proud of you. Way to go, you did it. Now you can get your CPA on the first try. Praying for your continued success. |
Re: Frankentruck
Congratulations on that and justifiably proud of achieving that. Hopefully there will be enough time later to enjoy the truck.

These are more of the graduation pics y'all were expecting to see
I took high school graduation pictures with Frankentruck a while back, so of course I had to do it again. I ended up not taking pictures for my undergraduate degree because I had already decided to return to Georgia College for my Masters, and my graduation ceremony was an online only ceremony. This time though, it was a normal ceremony, so that was nice. Anyways, enjoy some pics of Frankentruck and myself out at Lake Sinclair. (Last picture: Captain Rust Bucket on the hunt for another C10 to save) |

I know what's wrong with it, it ain't got no gas in it!
It's hard to put into words about how thankful I am for my parents. They worked hard to raise me up to be a respectful member of society. I think I turned out ok ;) They let me keep a bunch of spare parts in the garage and make a mess out of the driveway frequently. It's a great time in the Carpenter household :metal: |
Re: Frankentruck
Congrats man! Hope you are off to a successful and awesome start in a career you want. Took me 7 years of working to find mine haha Ended up landing being a diesel tech......actually an "anything with a diesel in it tech"
Truck is looking sharp as always! |

Lake Sinclair a nice spot to "run out of gas". When do you start your new job?
My sons UGA graduation is this Friday...hard to believe. You guys are making me feel old(er), but then I move on the 22nd...so no time for that feeling old stuff! LOL |

Re: Frankentruck
I have two starter for the truck. One that would spark really bad when I tried to start it, and the one that was in the truck but sometimes wouldn't do the spinny thing and sounded pretty crunchy most of the time.
I took the extra sparky one to a starter and alternator shop in Milledgeville before I graduated to have it rebuilt. I haven't had the time to rebuild one myself, so it made sense to pay $60 for the knowledgeable folks to work their magic on it. I was able to swap starters this evening, so now I'm not worried about the starter for awhile. |
Re: Frankentruck
Fixed another issue with Frankentruck today. I didn't realize that one of the taillights would turn off at night when the blinker was activated. My dad noticed it over the weekend. I cleaned up the grounds on both sides, and that fixed it. The lights seem a lot brighter now too
I also had to pull the starter out of the Dakota this morning so I can have it rebuilt. May is the month of starters for me apparently |
Re: Frankentruck
Yep, they do corrode and weaken the connection. I think I mentioned in the 'What did you do to your truck today?" thread that I had to use PB Blaster to get the bulbs out of my tail lights. :(

Re: Frankentruck
My GMC's starter darn near left me trying to push start it at a gas station once. Kept clicking and even did after the ol hammer trick. FINALLY it gave one last go and I got home. Needless to say it was rebuilt. lol Been fine since. Looks like a nice an sunny cruise with some good looking trucks!

The starter that I pulled out a couple days ago was the one that was on the truck when I bought it. It's made an awful noise ever since I got the truck running, but it never let me down. I just wanted to be preemptive since I had the second one already on the shelf. It was a great cruise in with lots of variety. A couple Corvettes, Chevelles, Camaros, Mopars, and Fords. I really liked a 58 Impala that was there, but didn't take a picture |

Frankentruck returned to the farm life for a couple hours today.
I went back to tinker with that 81 I posted about a couple months back, so when I saw the open section in the barn, I had to take a couple pics. There's a really old International L-160 on the property as well. Apparently, the roof was fine before the timber crew went through and destroyed it beyond use. It has been sitting in that spot since the mid to late 1950s |
Re: Frankentruck
Frankentruck looks right at home at the barn. Nice pics.
|
Re: Frankentruck
That's calendar worthy pictures right there! lol Looks good!

Dad and I went up to the old family farm today to find out if the front tires would hold air at all on the old John Deere. It's a 400 Industrial tractor that someone painted green a long time ago. Only one tire held air, so we decided to bring them home to get some new tires mounted up.
We took his truck though because on my way back from Milledgeville yesterday, Frankentruck started doing something funky. In overdrive trying to accelerate up a hill, the engine kept bogging or losing ignition. It was real jolt-y, and would lose power, then suddenly get power and try to accelerate, then loose power again. That cycle would happen withing several seconds until I got to the top of the hill and then it would be fine. It also does the same thing in when accelerating hard in 2nd gear once it gets past 3k rpm. I'm thinking it might be the fule pump or maybe the HEI module?? I don't believe it's vapor lock because I've never had vapor lock the entire time I've owned the truck. As a "test drive" today, I ran up to the Po Boys cruise in at Riverstone. The truck did the same crap, but at least there were some other cool trucks there |
Re: Frankentruck
I would suspect fuel pump before hei but they can obviously fail. Do you maybe have a cheapie 12v pump you can bypass the stock pump with just to check it out for small cruise? Also don't forget to rule out something like clogged pickup in tank or something, make sure have good flow from fuel line before connecting back up to run.
|
Re: Frankentruck

I don't have a 12v pump, so I'm going to change the fuel filter first since it looks kinda like it started to come apart, hope that fixes it, then test the fuel pump if that wasn't it |
