Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Swapped in my new SBC "pumpkin". After fighting with the torque converter we finally got her in there. Now if I can get it timed after Christmas I can break her in (and hope to the big guy upstairs that it doesn't blow up).

Yesterday I was buzzin' down the highway, hit a bump on the other end of a bridge, where it drops back into the road.
Hit so hard it knocked my water bottle loose! This water bottle was put on by a PO, so it was held on with sheet metal screws... for a good 10 years, if not longer. Well, today I bolted it back to the inner fender with some bolts and lock washers. :D The wire frame may break, but the bolts are not coming loose. :D -W p.s. The story behind it breaking... and figuring out it was broke, is more interesting than the actual fix. :D 12/24/2012 : water bottle securing |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Swapped passenger doors and started rebuilding the vent windows. Those rivet kits suck so I used short stainless pop rivets. Worked like a champ. Also added the jeep Cherokee door stops.Gonna have to get used to the doors not opening as far but a nice upgrade with steps to stop the door in two places

Picked up my upgraded ubolts for the lower control arms. Also bought some clearance switches that will work on the future door shave project.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I pulled the front of my truck apart, in the snow. It sucked but I feel like if I do not do a little some thing every day nothing will get done. before and after

It’s been a long road bringing me to Walmart of all places for a car battery. Back in the early 70’s I did my first 54 Chevy/283 swap which was the first time I ever had an excuse to buy a new 12 volt battery. Sears Die Hard batteries were new on the market and I was so proud having my first new white plastic battery: http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/2048/1954r.jpg Man that thing was powerful. If I remember correctly it had 1000 CCA. I swapped the electrical system over to 12 volts before the V8 went in, and that old 235 would spin over like it was rocket powered. Same performance after the V8 went in. Sadly the Die Hard developed a dead cell at about 6 months old. And every 6 months after that the replacement battery ended up with another dead cell and another replacement. After 2 years the warranty had diminished to where I was basically paying the cost of a new battery that only lasted 6 months, and I’d had enough. About this time J.C. Penney released their new “Forever” battery. Instead of tin and lead they were engineered around antimony and lead and really did seem to last forever. I bought two at the same time, one for my car and one for the wife’s car. As those cars were sold the batteries were swapped from car to car. After ten years both batteries went away in cars I sold, and they were as strong as ever. By that time Penney’s didn’t offer them anymore, so I had to start searching all over again. I bounced around after that with batteries until I needed a new one in 2005. It had been so long since the early Die Hard failures, I thought I might try them again. I went to Sears on my lunch hour to buy the Die Hard model most highly recommended by Consumer Reports. After being ignored for 45 minutes I left the store, drove over to Walmart and grabbed the #2 recommendation. Picked it up, plopped it in the cart and was out of there in 5 minutes. I’m pretty sure that was the last time I was ever in a Sears store. The Walmart do-it-yourself complete lack of service was vastly superior to the terrible treatment at Sears, and since their battery ratings remain high I’ll probably keep buying them until something else changes. At one point I wanted to go with an Ultima but their recent reputation killed that idea. |
