Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Bought a shark steam cleaner for $5 at a thrift store. Works perfect!
It gets into all the nooks and crannies on the engine to get it rest of the way clean. I wish I had found this thing months ago. As soon as the gloom and cold lets up, I will get it painted. Steven |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I wound up adding a floor to the bed of my 66
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...4EC11F7178.jpg I have since added a few more bed strips since this picture was taken shameless shot of my beater http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...F1DD0C671C.jpg |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Put it up on jacks in the garage today trying to chase down a tranny leak.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Installed my drop spindles, new springs, tie rod, upper control arm shaft kit and 6 lug rotors. Looks sweet! Nothing like new parts.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Been working on a driving light front cowling. The trick is I am starting with a "paintable front bumper".
I had seen something like this done on a burb that I crawled under at a swap meet. My wife thought I was crazy crawling all under this guys burb! LOL Any how I just took his main idea and blindly went at it. I have taken a few picks so I will show what I did. But basically I cut the original bumper in half. Then sectioned 3inches out of the bumper (from both ends using the mounting holes as my start point) for a total of 6 inches being removed. I used the bolt holes as my start point because I wanted to keep the stock mounted look. Thus I left the holes for carriage bolts. I have gotten the whole thing dry hung and ever thing looks good, I did have to take a few bits off the other half and fix the ends so they looked more factory! Here are a few pics to give you the idea! http://i1326.photobucket.com/albums/...EF114102A1.jpg http://i1326.photobucket.com/albums/...EEF46CD411.jpg http://i1326.photobucket.com/albums/...EEECE1E206.jpg http://i1326.photobucket.com/albums/...F4CAE20AB1.jpg http://i1326.photobucket.com/albums/...F4ED56CFB8.jpg Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
We finally got our steering columns switched and the electrical issues sorted out. Had to fab up the connecting rod from the column to the power steering box from two different rods. Need to order the shift linkage and move the shifter off the floor back to the column. New seat cover is in and looks great, stereo is next. Hoping to fab up the fan shroud before the end of the weekend as well. No rain for the next three days but it is cold! Jr goes back to school on Wednesday and we want as much done as possible.

Welded the holes drilled in my homemade brackets for my rear LED lights so I can drill different holes. Sprayed primer on them, sanded the cups with 1000 paper.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I really like what you've done. I thought about doing something similar to my truck at one time, except the holes were going to be round with small blended shrouds above the lights. Nice work, looking forward to seeing the finished result.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
So this part will be mounted under the bumper? I was thinking about flipping my bumper and adding round driving lights to it. I look forward to how yours comes out.

Finally tore out the fuel lines, tank and fuel pump. Cleaned the tank out (hose at the end of the sending line in the tank was deteriorated), then sanded the surface rust off to paint. Cleaned up the sending unit and buffed the metal a little. Fuel lines were rusted out so I replaced them with rubber hoses for now from under to cab to the pump. And fixed the leak on the fuel pump were someone slipped a wrench on a brass fitting and it wasn't sealing properly. (didn't know about that until i pulled it off, looked like the gasket went bad on the side and was leaking) Should prolly clean the rest of the back cab while I'm at it...

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Yes, it goes under the bumper, and actually falls behind the fenders as well (by removing the 3inches from each side) I have it "dry mounted" currently. I took a few pics...
It is still really crapy outside, (snowing and now raining) and Sally (wife's name for my 65') doesn't go out in that kind of weather, so I had to take them in the garage.. I want to get her outside and get a good front shot with them powered up, for you guys! Kind of this shot with out, then get one with.. http://i1326.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3e4c9ca8.jpg Right now the pics are still on my Ipod, I'll have to add them to my photobucket and attach them here when I get near some wi-fi! Sorry... I will post later this afternoon so you guys can see the Finished product.. Oh and thanks for the instrest! |

Not much really but with the kids out of school, I figured I'd pull my 12 yr old off his couch induced post Christmas tv/video game coma and get some fresh air and tinker in the garage a bit.
Here he is installing a pulley and cover on his mom's 283 going into her 57. Truth be told, I could sit back and watch him learn and do stuff in the garage all day. Kind of stuff that makes a dad proud for sure. |

Well I have made it back to Junction City OR for a couple of weeks and got a chance to work on my 64. I changed the hood from the original that was way to rotted around the front edge to a nicer one that has a few more dents. I can work with dents before rust. I also made some new battery cables that are routed a little different than factory. Most of the new cables is hidden. I think it really cleans up the look under the hood. It is a little chilly to paint here but I am getting some prep work done on the firewall and engine so it is ready.
I also donated the ugly 1964 canopy to scrap. It looks so much better without it. I have to really plan my time well because I am only here for a short Posted via Mobile Device |

I have been tearing a 66 C10 hood apart to see what it takes to do so and whether or not it might be salvagable...
Today I etch-primed most of my front end stuff that's been blasted, and had the bump-stops removed. Trying to get going on my 62 C10... |
Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Put a new frame under a 66 big window truck...
