A couple better pics.............what a pain this was but worth it when finished I think....valve cover script is so thin ...makes body work real tedious....about 95% done with this one......jim

Ok guys....here's the frenched panel I've been wanting to debut....always hated the way most just leave this 8" section behind tailgate either flat paneled or open on raised bed trucks....Have had this idea in my head for years.....may have been done by someone but i haven't seen it.....see what u think and it is pre-made by the way....well sort of!!....jim

Here's a shot with all braces installed...the top of that rear panel is same as cross brace turned up..then 1" angle welded to backside for floor support...the new panel is bolted in to it and the lower cross sill....notice the little rounded cuts at ends of upper cross sill....for tailgate rib clearance.....

Now a hint of where the panel came from.........................Anybody????
|
Re: 68 aka "Chained in Porterbuilt Prison"
I thought that panel looked familiar. Very nice work!
|
Re: 68 aka "Chained in Porterbuilt Prison"
Hey Jim,love the panel piece and nice job on the clearance of last sill....Jim
|
Re: 68 aka "Chained in Porterbuilt Prison"
That's a pretty cool idea. I guessed the tailgate panel before I scrolled down, wasn't sure until I saw the cuts on the gate though. I like it! :metal:

Re: 68 aka "Chained in Porterbuilt Prison"
The weird thing is it was the exact width I needed and keep all the lines of the panel intact...usually doesn't work out...I don't have tools to make a panel like that ...so this was the alternative.....81-up Square body gate with handle welded up by the way...did welding and body work before cutting panel out...lot's easier and less chance of warpage...another cool thing is that all of the "cut" edges are hidden behind upper and lower sills except for ends which will square up nicely............jim
