It’s officially been on a shake down run. Had it up to 60. Drives straight, but still needs an alignment. Have a drive train noise I have to diagnose. I’ll get to that later. Also, I wasn’t sure the coolant system would work the way I set it up. Seems to be ok. Almost runt too cool. I have 20+ miles on it now. It definitely has plenty of power and those borlas sound great. So now onto the interior. I didn’t want to pull the seat back out. Can’t drive it now:lol: Started by finishing the center console in maple. Then made some side for the seats.

Started wrapping interior panels today. I invested in the gallon of contact adhesive and a $15 hobo freight paint gun. I’ve see it done on tv. So far I’ve been pretty successful. Started on the ceiling. Material went on well, but that rubber gasket that goes up there is a lot of fun to get in place. I can’t get the corners in. I’ll attempt again tomorrow. I made the corner panels (3rd picture) out it aluminum. Worked well. I put 6x9 in them. They also conceal the seat belt reels. The holes are for the seat belts to travel through. The kick panels are nearly done. Just have door panels and I have to finish clearing the wood work. Tomorrow’s project… I have the week off:metal:

Re: My 56 build
All the senses are on high alert on a first drive. 'What was that?' , 'Did you hear something?', "Do you smell something? is something burning?'..... very stressful
Glad it all worked out OK, as it looks fantastic. Congratulations |
Re: My 56 build
Looking very nice.
Seeing the headliner pic, I did mine last fall, I was exhausted once finished. |

Thanks for the compliments. I’m looking forward to hitting the road! [QUOTE=Tempest67;9320283]All the senses are on high alert on a first drive. 'What was that?' , 'Did you hear something?', "Do you smell something? is something burning?'..... very stressful Oh ya! I kept pulling over and checking things. Even set my engine temp to a digital readout on the Dakota digital. Just to keep an eye on things |

Interior is almost done. Just have to make some stainless trim for the edge of the step/carpet. Some pictures of the progress. Door panels came out nice. The plan is to get the seats redone over winter. They’ll match the door panels then. So this is it for cruising season. I’m really happy with how everything is turning out.

Took the truck to the gas station for the first time. I’m up to 50 miles on the odometer now and everything is working well. Just have to figure out why the cruise control doesn’t work. I’ve got a good idea why. I’ll figure it out. A few more pictures and a link to a video of the interior:

Re: My 56 build
Very creative and fits the rest of the truck. Probably feels great putting some miles on it. Enjoy it. Steve

Almost up to 150 miles now. I’ve been working out bugs. Lots of small things but time consuming. Adjusted the MAF to compensate for the increased airflow. Runs really good. Made some stainless trim to frame the steps. Just need to do a little TIG welding to finish those. Covered the steps with some 3M clear protectant. Had to raise the front. It has settled quite a bit since I started driving. Also had to clearance my hose bracket under the right fender. Have an alignment and ac charge scheduled for July 26th. Then the serious cruising begins:metal:

Re: My 56 build
Glad to see you are getting some miles on it and working on debugging. I am just starting this process on mine. Steve

Thanks Steve. It sure is nice to drive it. Enjoy yours, you’ll get it dialed in.
The sky was amazing this evening after sunset. Couldn’t help but pull out the truck and snap a few pictures. |
