Thanks for the compliment! I still need to complete the interior and Saturday the truck goes back to the body shop for the bed & hood paint. And by the way, welcome!

Okay, so here's an update on were I'm at now. The trucks back at the body shop for the bed and hood. We put the box on to test fit it for wheel clearance. The out side of the fender had about 1 inch of clearance. The inside ended up with about an 1/8 inch of clearance which is way to close, so I will be using CCP'S 4 inch fiberglass wheel tubs. I also took my seats, door panels, headliner, cab back and kick panels in for upholstery. I made a BIG mistake. I had the upholstery guy order new Katzkins set covers for the Honda Accord sets I have. Here’s the problem, I told him they were out of a 1997 Accord and it turn’s out they were from a 1998 Accord and there is a major difference between them. Once the Katzkins are made they can’t take them back. So down to the wrecking yard I go to find a set of 1997 sets. I found a set that cost me about $160. Ordering new set covers would have been around $800. So next week I will take the truck in to the upholstery shop for carpet and the rest of my upholstery.

Here it is, the video I promissed! My 58's maiden voyage. In the video you can hear the backing plate scrapping the rotors in the rear. It has since been fixed. Here's the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dtCQMxztlE

:) :metal:

Thanks for that Cal.
Sort of like the baby pics of it walking for the first time!!
I thought you had a set of the inner wheel wells off a later model box you might use for tubs? With the wheel spacing issue could you have got a 1/2" or 3/8" wider adaptor for the rear wheels? Anyway it looks and sounds great!!

I thought you were better looking that than, Dave...but looks aren't everything. Any chance of getting a little footage of the air suspension system? Thanks!

Cal58 Sweet truck.

I see you are considering fiberglass wheel tubs. I bought a pair of steel ones from a guy that makes ford truck parts. I really like the quality of the tubs. I have attached a piture of what they look like. I had to trim them down because the bed floor of my truck has been raised to clear the frame.

The weel tubs are made by Dan Carpenter http://dancarpenters.com/tubb.html

They are a little pricey ($275.00) but nice. I bought 2 3/4 wide tubs

I wished I knew about them before I orderd the fiberglass ones and I know my paint guy would have rather used steel one. By the way, your bed looks great!

Hey Cal 58
I just been flipping through your 27 pg thread.
I can't think of any words to describe it, but incredible!!!
Your attention to detail, is inspiring. Awesome work. Video is cool too.
On your post #509 is it the picture or are those round projection head lites?
If they are? Would you have a link... where a person could order a set?

Re: 58 GMC Project

Hey Diesel,
Thanks for the compliment! When I hear my fellow classic truck guys give a compliment like you did, it inspires me to keep on wrenching away. Now, to your question. I'm not sure what you mean by projection lights, but here what they are. Clear lens halogen headlight with the newer style replaceable bulb. There are many places you can purchase this style of headlight, I got mine from LMC Trucks.

Re: 58 GMC Project

Hey Cal
I think I answered my own question, regarding the head lights. I found a set of them on Ebay. They're called Halo head lights. I like em, They remind me of the BMW style. I was wondering Cal I noticed you found out your sub frame was a 1980 instead of a 79. But your main chassis is it from the 58 truck too.
And if I could bother you with one more ??? Do you have the particulars on your 350 crate engine?? That is one impressive lookin peice of iron.

Glenn
