Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
My front brake rotors were pretty toasted after we ran it wide open at the end of 2019. The short downhill shutdown at that track was a little hard on them. So I figured it was time for new rotors and pads.

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
Other than all that I pulled the carbs and cleaned them up. New floats and needle & seats
When I turned on the fuel pump it picked up 4lbs of fuel pressure. That tells me I had a problem. All I have left to do to the truck is mount my new front tires, check and or adjust the floats and clean it up. I've also been working on the race trailer. The brakes were a mess. We literally threw a bunch of used junk together so I could make the last two races. I got new backing plates and hubs. I've got the plates on and wired. I'm just putting off the messy job of packing bearings and putting the hubs on. I do have to get done in the next couple of weeks. The next project is head studs and gasket on my old Dodge. Appearently 40lbs of boost with stock head bolts will get you sooner or later. Right now everything is on jack stands .Lol https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...080&fit=bounds |
Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
Even though I had a terrible race season in 2020 I did get a little ink from the Fall Nationals.

But then there's this little issue to deal with. |
Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime

I took this hunk of iron to the machine shop Monday. They called me and said its good and solid but needs a few guides. I told them to just make it right. I have a Mahle head gasket and ARP studs here for it. When I busted the head bolts loose that I had to do by hand some didn't feel very tight. I think the last idiot that I let work on it reused the bolts. That's what I get for not studding it to begin with. Hopefully I will have it back by tomorrow. Maybe My chest will feel better by Saturday. I feel like I've been Donkey Kicked in the chest from planking on the core support,Lol |

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
The old Goat is up and running as of yesterday. Everything went back together pretty well. It is a little tiring getting 26 studs to 125lbs of torque with a short torque wrench. After a few Ken was reaching over and helping me pull.

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
Well guys I'm in South Louisiana in Belle Rose. I unloaded Thursday when I got here to get the golf cart out and put the truck back in. I thought something looked funny about the truck but didn't figure it out till yesterday morning.

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
Look at the C Notch! And look at the wheel tub and the kink in the bed floor.

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
I've got it strapped up jacked up and rigged up to try and get it home with no more damage if possible. I'll take it over to my friend Tony next week. We will get it straightened out and welded up. Then I'm going to add some more tubing off the strut bars to go further back behind the rearend. I spent yesterday helping some of my friend and borrowing different straps and such to get it road ready. I'll post a pic of that later. It's going to be a long ride home. I'll be stopping to check everything about every 50 miles.

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
I hate to say it but that notch depth (even boxed in) makes that area of frame weak for a stock truck. Scary weak for the power & stress you're putting to it.

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
You're right on that Scotti. I have wanted to add some bars for awhile now. I was too busy this winter to even think about it. I had a laundry list of things to work on from October till February. On top of that I had an abnormal business work load in January. I hope we can start on it by Thursday. When it's done it will be better than ever. I believe there was already some damage causing erratic 60ft times.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/imag...w/IMG_3120.JPG Well I took a couple of days to look at it and think about it. The damage was a little worse than I could see. I took the anti-roll out of it and gently jacked it up from the middle and the back so I could get in there with a sawzall. I cut out the two sections of what is left of the middle bed braces so Tony can weld the top. That will help relieve the bent bed floor in hopes of fixing the floor and the tubs. It ain't pretty. |
Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
Damn, I am glad you saw this before making more passes, that could have ended badly.
Make sense now seeing this damage as to why you were having 60ft issues. Is it Tony Smith that will help you out? |
Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
Yea Karl hopefully we can get started on it tomorrow. I told him I would bring it and stay with him to get the frame back in place. Once we get that done he can add the bars. We may tie the bars in with the shock mount and then tie into the frame afterwards. We'll just have to look it over and figure out the best solution. And you know I want it to look right.

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
Dang Regan...that coulda been bad..good thing you caught it when you did..!!!..

Re: Ok Boys and Girls it's Storytime
Greg if I didn't notice it before I staged. I'm sure I would have when I let go of the transbrake. It wouldn't have been good at all.

Well we got a good start on the truck yesterday. We got in the air which was a chore in itself. I pulled everything out of the frame rails. Fuel line and wires etc. |
