Come on!!!! How long does it take to sell a car? Truth, you sold the car and spent the money on that damn Vette did'nt you. Don't forget the name of your thread is "Cheap build up". You should'nt need any money.:uhmk: You said this in the first paragraph "I am going to use everything from the bumper bolts to the wiring harness". What else do you need? Your trucks not still parked out in back of your shop is it?:lol: Don't make me go Goggle on your a$$. Carry on. I feel better now. I hope Liz does'nt see this she hates it when the a$$ is hanging out.

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Soon I'll be getting back on it. I will still use all the crap of the 73. But some things I have to spend money on. Like the A/C, paint, Upholstery, Engine Machine work, and tires. The ones on there are rotten. I still haven't sold the F*ckas. That Used Car Dealer asked his buyer, and he said they will only give me $4,000 for it. I'm trying a little longer to sell it. My price went down to $5,000. I hate looking at it in front of the house. Not one call from Craigs List.

Strodder.................. Can you tell me what size those Cragar S/S rims are you have on the front? 15x6 or 15x7 ?
Thanks, |
Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
They are 15x7 front and 16x8 in the rear. I would love to have 17" all around though.

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
I always wanted to have Corvette door handles, because they fit nice and flush with the contour of the door, and looks almost like it's shaved. I found these handles off a 01 Impala. They are the same as the C-5 Vette handles, except the passengers side has a key also. I wanted these because you still have a mechanical door handle. I cut the hole and fit the handle in place. Now I have to fill in the metal. and make a mount from behind. The hardest part will be making linkage to operate the door latch. I'm thinking of a small bell crank. I know I'm asking for trouble, but I dare to be different. :sumo:

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
I thought about that, but didn't do it. Looks nice. I also thought about using a late model inside door handle. They are flush as well.

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
it looks ok but i wouldve gone for a more regtangle shape they wouldve fitted the truck better
over here we havve the fiat barchetta those are realy nice http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=...t:429,r:1,s:48 its completely flush the little knop at the back pushes out the lever and pulleing that opens the door , they look like ultimate streetrod doorhandles |

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
You should see if you can put a bug engine in it. Now that would be cool.:smoke::lol::lol:
|
Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Yeah and mount it mid engine. :haha: But a Corvette engine will be MUCH BETTER.
|
Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
A Vette engine with a vw transmission. The kind were when you put your hand on the shifter it engages the clutch.:smoke: Now that would be cool. And those littles skinny VW tail pipes coming out your Vette Bezels. Way cool.

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Heck-- go Green with it --- make it electric and lower it with lots of storage batteries in the bed!! Only trouble is,, it would be too quiet!!
|
Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Thats funny right there... I dont care who you are..
I suppose you could solve the quiet problem with a couple of thumping bass speakers. you could still go Broom BRooom at the stoplights I like your imagination on the door handles.. Dare to be Rare |
Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Handles are going to look awesome!

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Pop’s C10,
I have read all of your posts on your build and I have a question about your frame or more specifically, why did you choose to do the frame section where you did? I have a 66 GMC frame and a 79 donor frame and was going to do, pretty much the same type build. However, I am thinking of sectioning the frames together "behind" the original 66 frame’s front two bed mounts (behind being the direction of the rear bumper) and incorporating the original front leaf perch of the 66 frame utilizing the 66 rear perch in place of the 79 rear perch, both of which (66 vs 79) take different width bushings in the leafs. I am also curious about mounting the 73 and up bed and if there are any challenges I should look for in that phase? I anticipate having to fabricate bed bushings/mounts but I wonder about height issues between my 66 cab and the 79 step side bed. Any words of advice?:uhmk: |
Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Words of advice, DON'T DO IT. A lot more trouble than it was worth. I thought I would do it because I'm going to put a 4 link with air bags, and this frame will look better. I had to channel the body over the rear frame. It kicks up sooner than the 65 frame does and restricts the body from sitting level. :banghead:

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Dennis-
I was driving down the road with my kids and their friends and their I-pod going ,when the most annoying song came on . It seems that goofy U-tube frog has a song out . Something called "crazy frog" I think they said a band called Axel F was responsible. I was laughing so damned hard, I pulled over till I could see through the tears . I thought I was done with the annoying thing.......... Bubba |
Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Is this it?

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up

1-I have a 74 short-bed step side I want to use with the dual tanks. 2-I have a long bed and want a short bed. I am starting to think I would be better off finding a short bed frame except my GMC has leaf springs and I like leafs. I don't want to use the coil/trailing arm suspension so my frame selection is minimal. What to do... what to do... :sumo: |
Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Yup-- that's the one.
Now I got that annoying song stuck in my head.....:cuss: |

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
I was racking my brains out trying to figure out how to make the door handles work with the stock door latches. The handles work with a up and down action, and the latches push in. I guess this is the easyest way and safer too. I installed Bear Claw Latches. I'm not done with it yet. I still have to add sheetmetal in the low spots, and make it look stock. Also I have to make the linkage to connect the handle to the latch. It's going to work great. And I didn't go nutz. Or more Nutz than I already am. :uhmk:
http://belair.smugmug.com/Other/1965...44_c6DZm-L.jpg http://belair.smugmug.com/Other/1965...72_ib5EX-L.jpg I JUST NOTICED THE FRAME AND ENGINE IN THE BACK GROUND IS THE 62 IMPALA FRAME OFF I'M DOING. I wish it was for the truck. |
Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
wasnt it possible to mount the latches upside down left to right , if im correct that wouldve made them push operated , dunno if they still would lock though as the horseshoe thingy grabbing the post would be on the bottom of the latch
|
Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
I tried everything I could think of, and it just wouldn't work. Besides the Bear Claws are a safer latch, and works a lot smoother.

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
I picked up the 51 Project truck yesterday. It came with 4 doors, 4 extra fenders, 2 extra bed sides, extra dash, and a ton of other stuff. I want to make the truck complete, and sell the extra parts. It has a Camero front clip, SBC with disc brakes, P/B, P/S and a Camero tilt column, and a 12 bolt rear end. After I sort things, I'll figure out the prices. Like I need more work. :banghead::dohh:

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
I need your opinion.
Should I use the Centerline wheels from the 51 on the 65, or keep the Cragers? If I use the Centerline's I'll polish them and add knock off's. The Centerlines are all 15", while the Cragers are 15" and 16", and the look of the hoops don't match. |
