Blazers and Burbs didn't change in 88 like the trucks. They kept the 73+ bodystyle until 91 (changed in 92). I'm guessing something like this:

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Dang Mike,
Been a month or so since I last checked on you and Tubby, and I am simply awe-struck. This is nothing short of awesome work, thought, forethought and concept, not to mention execution my friend. Looking thru the last few pages, You were not clear about your hinge/door/body contact or clearance issue to get the full 180 Degree opening. I am assuming that the issue for the full 180 degrees is probably around the wheel arch area, where the arch and body line come together when open? Just a thought (and only from a different fabricators point of view) but if you twisted the hinge outward at the bottom (rotate around a horizontal plane front-rear) just a few degrees that would bring the glass in and the bottom of the door out when open a full 180 degrees. Granted, you seem to be pretty far along in the "square" design and rotating the hinge may be a little involved at this point. None the less it could be a possible solution if that is where your clearance issue is at. Canted hinges do make door adjustments a lot more challenging, as the hinge plane is no longer parallel to the door opening hence hinge adjustment in one plane can affect the door in both planes. This is just my un-solicited two cents and maybe a little food for a solution. And put me down for Linc’ style handles. You might think of the original Lincoln handles too, and as I recall they came a little closer together at the door split line (kind of creates a smoothness). Something subtle that many would miss, of course we in our group of 67-72 truck nuts would notice right off that they were not the original truck handles. Spencer |

You know my opinion...Linc' style. Here is a good example since you are still in the fab stages...

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
I was sick for a couple days there. Might have been that Linc/Truck pic...
Anyway, I thought I'd at least post up where I am right now: This shows how much the hinge box had to be cut down in order to get the hinge as close to the door skin as possible. I still need to add a second bolt hole on the upper end of the hinge box: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1226393145 Added more vertical support: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1226393145 POR-15 http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1226393145 http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1226393145 inside the door while I have access: http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1226393145 http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y23...g?t=1226393145 |

Frizzle, that, as everyone has already said, is amazing work. The depth of talent on this board is amazing.
I really shouldn't be sittin' at the desk stareing at your work, gotta go to the shop! Bill. |
Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Two questions:
1) I spied your welder in the back ground. Could you tell me the model, power rating and duty cycle? Is that the welder you used to weld your frame? I am currently, uh "extending" my education and taking some welding classes. 2) Do I see the reason that progress has slowed in the background in the last pic? |

I hope I inspired you to get out there! I know this board has done that for me more than once :metal: Quote:
On the second question; If anything I get more time in the shop because of her :D It's the three kids that try to slow me down and she runs interference ;) My full-time job plus full-time school she can't help me with though... :waah: |
Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
You are an unbelievable artist, if i wore a hat it would be off to you!!! just a question since obviously you are great at coming up with stuff, i want my engine compartment to look original (hence i want to use the original style inner fenders) have you done yours yet ?? i sort of got the idea from your pictures that you might be doing this also, mine sets like yours in the front i think i am running the same size tires and wheels, i had to arch my fenders like yours also.. anyway i wanted to see if you had pictures of yours so us less imaginative people could copy yours....Thanks
|
Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*
Hey thanks :) Here's the link to the fenders. Haven't stretched the inners to match yet.
BTW guys, I am taking a little break from this project to drop a new engine/tranny in the Sunbeam. ...to be continued... |
