Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Thanks guys. I have made some good progress on it lately. I am having issues getting my pics loaded though. The engine is setting back in the frame all painted up and I'm getting parts off the floor finally! The only hick up I'm going to have is my lower water inlet. After the frame rail reinforcement, now the radiator hose will rub on the frame. So I'm going to have to come up with a fix for that.
Here are the oil feed lines for the turbos. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0042.jpg Here is the KDP installed. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0044.jpg I got a lot more done than this. When I get the pics up, I'll post them. |
Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
ooh very nice progress Ryan, Is the 5.9 a ppumped 24valve? whenever I follow your posts I feel like my project is soo very far from the light at the end of the long tunnel lol. good job man.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
cant wait for more pics. i am jealous of your progress. i cant wait to see a video of it making bad air.
i looked at a really strait replacement bed for mine tonight. i have to fly out towards you tomorrow and drive back to CO, so hopefully in the next few weekends i can get that home and sat on the frame. Ryan |

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Ok, getting some pics to upload finally! Here is another oil feed line shot. I also got the oil returns ran for the turbos too.
http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0043.jpg Here is the wear sleeve installed for the front seal. If you ever have to replace your front seal and your crank has any scores or bad wear on it, this is the seal you need to install to ensure it won't leak again. I also installed my new valve springs, but didn't take pics of that. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0045.jpg Painted the engine gloss black. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...IMG_0047-1.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...IMG_0046-1.jpg Got my billet tappet cover installed along with my billet freeze plugs. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...IMG_0050-1.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...IMG_0049-1.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...IMG_0049-1.jpg Got the engine sat back in the truck, and got one hydraboost line on. Last night I got all new lines for the power steering system. Today I'll see if they fit. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...IMG_0053-2.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...IMG_0051-1.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...IMG_0052-2.jpg I should have more progress to report tonight. I'm going to get the clutch in, install the trans, and get the trans cross member finished. I'd like to plumb it and try to start it tomorrow. We'll see. |

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Ok, got a lot more done. The engine is getting really close. The turbos are on, ac comp is on, front accessories are on, injection pump is ready to go on, injectors are built and installed, valve train is installed, exhaust is hooked up, starter is installed, dipstick is installed, and I installed a new thermostat. Quite a bit of work done. It's getting closer.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Don't forget the transmission and clutch are in along with part of the coolant bypass.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Wow, Nice progress Ryan! The truck should be burning rubber in no time! IMO i would put a set of 191 dv's in the pump while its out and you have the time to work on it. That pump is gonna be bad arse tho. I have a 175hp ppump that i still need to collect parts for before it sees the conversion. what size injector lines are you going with?
|
Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
It has 0.084" lines on it and for now I put in 0.022" DV's before I take the ones out of my truck for it.

More progress. Got the turbo piping done and painted. I found my weldments and welded a bung in the cold pipe for a boost gauge, and 2 in the hot pipe at the engine. One for a boost reference to the AFC housing, and the other for a boost gauge. Nick got the injection pump put on, he timed it to 26* I believe, vac/ps pump is on, and I got the oil feed line for the ip and vac pump on. I got the intake plate put on with a new gasket, and cleaned and painted the grid heater. I ended up swapping my ps pump for one we had laying around that is for hydraboost so I didn't have to monkey with a T in the return line for both of them. Next thing to do is paint my heater housing, and get a throttle bracket set up.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
Way to go Ryan! You are knocking that pipe out. Bout ready to fire it up yet?

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
I've made more progress. I got the clutch hydros installed. Hopefully the clutch engages and disengages like it's supposed to. I won't know until I have it ready to start. I have the fuel shut off solenoid wired, starter wired, coolant temp sensor wired, finished the mount for the hydra boost, got the drive shaft at the drive line shop, Nick got the injection lines on for the last time, and I painted the hydra boost unit. It's getting closer. I also picked up this spare cluster from a friend.

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
More progress but I swear 3 steps forward, 2 back! My brother started installing the DIY4X shackle flip, not a bolt on unit. Here it is with no lift blocks, just the shackle flip kit.
http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0065.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0062.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0064.jpg I ended up removing 2 1/4" from the shackle bars and got it to this. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0066.jpg http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0069.jpg It still sits higher in the rear than I want, I might have to bring the front up so it doesn't look like a drag car. I got my spring perches installed and installed some U-bolt retaining plates off of a freightliner truck since I didn't have any for this thing. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0068.jpg Here is the hydra boost mount finished, and the clutch hydros mounted. http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...n/IMG_0070.jpg I also got my drive shaft back and will check to see how it fits in the morning. |
Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
iether that or buy leafsprings with more of an arch in them
you might even be able to combine 2 sets by taking one set apart and use parts to put a couple of extra leaves in the 2nd set it will bounce like hell though |
Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
L@@ks great Ryan! I hav en't cheacked out your build for a while and I am missing out:metal:

Re: Finally starting my Longhorn 4x4 conversion
