I was going to get the 6000 from hf but big is better so your thinking I need a 8000?

6K will do great if it rolls.

Re: Daverods 52

I got a HF 5000lb and it surprisingly pulled a panel truck thats been sitting for 30 plus years. I'd def get a 6 or 8 and be done with it though, if you go with a HF. Do yourself a favor if your not thrifty with their coupons. Wait till the wenches some on sale which they do, got mine for 200 bucks. Or buy a magazine and get the 20% coupon, it will save you quite a bit. Most all hotrod mags have them in there, I'm sure most of you know.

daverod 04-21-2013 11:13 AM

Re: Daverods 52

Ya I'll def use the 20% off thing. Tried to use it yesterday on a good floor jack, no deal. They don't take them for floor jacks, suc. I bought it anyways it was only $84 for a 2.5 inch high 2.5 ton. Used it yesterday to jack up the rear of the 52. Worked great. Finished welding the bottom of the pan hard bracket. Taking the 64 out to sit in the barn for awhile......Kinda sad about it. It was a fun truck. But the 52's funner if that's even a word. Plus I need more room for thangs in the future.

Re: Daverods 52

they wouldn't take the coupon a jack?? never heard of that. I have the same jack, works great. Can't wait to see some more projects. P.S the jacks do come on sale quite often as well. Been meaning to get another aluminum one as well.

Built me one of those rusty gates. Love my new service bed. Should have done that long ago. Looked at a 2001 6 liter for 950. Almost grabbed it but no engine harness so we'll see if they can find one.:smoke: In the process of makin some room in my garage.:sumo:

DAMIT MAN!!!! did you find a money tree or something? You just finished one truck, starting a new truck project and bought a trailor and new work truck. I cant seem to find enough time ore money to finish one truck. :waah:

Re: Daverods 52

:lol:You forgot about my rusty fence.:smoke: All I can say is thanks granny. I'm still working for my $$$ it's just the work got alittle easier. It's not all good the wife say's she wants in the garage.:lol::lol::lol::lol::l Does'nt she know garage's are for men.:smoke::sumo: funny thing I only paid 3000 more for the new work truck than I did for the old work truck. I paid 5 for it 20 years ago. Only thing I put in it was a spindle. Same truck different engine, different bed. Spent more in one trip to the lube/oil barn with the new diesel than I did for the whole life of my old gasser. But 570 lbs of torque is nice........ Besides you have MY BIKE.

Re: Daverods 52

Hey the fence looks great.......I dig the old and rusty stuff thats new....if that makes sence. Hey and my 2 bits for winches for what it's worth....if you have ever read any of my threads i tow and winch way more then I want to and from that i offer the following. I have a 8 k winch on my trailer and there isn't anything i haven't been able to winch including trucks with all 4 wheels locked on a single pull. A 6k winch would do it all as well just make sure you toss a block into the box in case you ever need to double back to increase your pull power.... lots of people forget the effect doubling back the cable has. I have a habit of doing really long pulls on a single cable so i really like the 8k winch but i have friends that double back a 1500lb ATV winch and make that work.....

Re: Daverods 52

Thanks Alan. Still looking for a s10 frame. Guess I'll go with the bigger is better and go with a 8000 or 9000 lb winch. Took the 52 in and had th trans guy set the tv cable. He tighten it alittle kicks down quicker now. I have alittle vibration in drive line. Guess that will be my next fix. Then maybe some new back tires.:smoke::lol::lol:

Went with a 8000 smitybuilt. Should get my car hauler this week. Can't believe it I missed a 1951 COE in great shape. Sold for 3000. Only on CL for like 6 hours.

99 to Life 05-06-2013 12:08 PM

Re: Daverods 52

I'd kill for a COE, I've seen a few around but they were pricey. Def worth it but timing is everything. CL is my best worst friend LOL.

Re: Daverods 52

Years ago there were 4 or 5 COE's in a yard in Springfield, Id (between Blackfoot and Aberdeen). This was in 2005 I think and he wanted $3000 a piece for them back then. I haven't been there since so I don't know if they are still there or not. All of them were the 47-54 body, some long frames some short frames. The yard in Wendell Id has a bunch of them too.

daverod 05-06-2013 11:32 PM

Re: Daverods 52

I'll have to check that out.;) I would love to get a coe. I was just at Springfield.:sumo:

Re: Daverods 52

you guys are lucky, out here on the east there are like no salvage yards for antiques. the only one I know of is Budds in Ohio and alot of his stuff is rough, like most of my stuff. I gotta get out west sometime and scoop some up.

I saw him at the Emmett cruise middle of July and hauled him and the Mrs around town in the convertible . He just enjoyed the scenery and the beverages.
They were headed to the coast of Oregon for a vacation. So he does not make it back, or we dont hear from him soon ,I am taking the 52, as I am headed for his side of the state in September.
I already have my car hauler, and several hand winches, Just wish I had a power winch like you guys!!

The 52's sitting in the garage right next to the 66 and the 64 is sitting in the driveway getting some rust on. When the snow flies I'll get back on it. First I need to kill and go for a big bike ride, oh ya I still need to buy a bike.;)

Goals for the winter. Wipers for the 52 and heat/AC.!!!

Re: Daverods 52

dave, your alive. If you got time there are plenty of thrifty wiper conversions. Since I'm always pressed for time I coughed up 200 bucks for the usa made newport wiper. Its ok to say the least. Heat, since my heater core and ranco valve both leaked, I took the other easy route out and dropped another 200 or so on an aftermarket kit, its not too bad either, came with everything you need. But you could prolly find a whole complete AC/Heat unit for 700 or so.

:lol:Tell me again why I put my brake booster under the dash.

99 to Life 10-02-2013 01:04 AM

Re: Daverods 52

LOL, yeah to be honest, under the dash is sooo cluttered as it is especially if you run the stock vent which is cool. I couldn't imagine a booster under there.
