That's a sharp looking truck!

I took my buddy buckets to get the new seat covers made and installed today and had an unexpected run in with member "knuckle Nurse" who is now also getting new covers on his buddy seats now. They will be sharp looking seats when all is said and done!

Appreciate the kind words on the truck. I recently sold it to a friend and am finishing my other truck with a fully built air ride chassis and LS power.

I put Buddy seats in every truck I have built. I’ve got a very nice set of covers that were removed to make templates for all my sets.

I love following along on your build it has got to be the most detailed build ever documented (not only for volume of posts and info but for the numerous modification you’ve added). Congrats on your continued dedication to the build!

That's great. The reason I detail the threads is that someone else can use this information on their builds. It's been fun sharing this build. Challenging at times as well.

Starting to put the truck back together for fitment but had a stall on my driver side fender so more work will be required before I can assemble further. I did get the holes in the cowl removed that were for the windshield washer nozzles and the antenna hole repaired after someone enlarged it for a whip antenna.

Got the front end lined up. Needs a bit more lining g up in the doors and the cowl needs working the corners. The hood gap needs a bit of tweeking too but isn't too bad. Had to use a 68 driver fender . When put the one I had on the truck you could tell it had collision damage and was not repaired correctly. I'll just get the hole filled nicely so you won't even notice it was there from either side.

I've been working for the last few evenings trying to get the passenger mirror to operate properly. I have to say this has been one of the most challenging things I have done on this truck You can't buy new cables and the 1st mirror I bought for the longer cables I messed up so I had to buy another. I destroyed 2 nos mopar mirrors to make one that could work on my truck just because they had cables long enough to reach the dash. But i think I have the hard part done!

This is where I mounted the wiper delay module and the low washer fluid module behind the dash. You can see where the twilight sentinel is mounted as well

I got my truck back home tonight so I can finish up a few things before it goes back in the summer hopefully to start completion. I am super happy with the work I've had done. To door jambs look great with the bear claw locks. I had him leave the detail where the old lock used to be. Andr he got the gaps and hood to fit really nice. The front end is 3 different trucks so I was worried about that. Only panel thats not original paint now is the driver fender. I hope theres no surprises when it gets stripped. It's expensive work but worth it when it looks this nice in bare metal.

And I mounted my Bruce Roe turbo 400 switch pitch controller right here above the ac housing where it can be accessed easily once the glove box is out I also mounted grommets over the holes used for the wiring harness for the vacuum lines for the door locks so the hoses don't run thru as they pass into the pillar. The door boots are pushed In like a grommet so they shouldn't see any metal edges at all.

I modified the harness for the accessories this afternoon. I added a breaker to the 10 gauge wire that will feed the power windows and seats. They will be left unfused. The breaker ensures that if the windows do shut down they will return to operation when the breaker cools off. That way I can't be cought in the rain with the windows down and a blown fuse. They will have power all the time as they will get power from the distribution block by the battery. That is how the factory 67 gm vehicles were wired. The other side of the block for the heated seats, and other accessories will be run to an unused in the fuse block and will only have power when the ignition is on. Everything that runs out of the accessory block from that side will have a inline fuse of its own. Again that is how I believe the factory would have done this in cars. I also added the vaccum Combo valve behind the gauges for the vacuum door lock. I think everything is pretty much figured out under the dash. Now on to fine tuning everything under the hood.

A switch pitch 400 ? I haven't even heard that in awhile. I like the idea of reset style breakers. Kinda like working on an old Harley, if you wait a few minutes it will work again. Heated seats? This thing is going to be cool.

Well i decided to do a full mock up of the under dash and i sure am glad i am. Under the dash is really full with all the options added. Lots more wiring. On 67 cabs only the ash tray slide bracket is welded into the dash. I drilled the spot welds and made it soit can be removed. I had to do this as the wonderbar radio would not go in with that bracket in place like the am did.

Email notifications seem to be hit and miss for me (at best). So I swung over to the thread to check on any progress...boy was I surprised. Lots of great updates I'd missed. Gotta admit it is a little more satisfying to come for a slice and find a whole cake.

Amazing as always. Keep it up! Excited for more.

Yeah I've been trying to keep this one going. I used my speedometer cable as a tachometer cable so I can measure it out as a mechanical tachometer was not stock. I'm running it thru the washer hose grommet since I mover the washer pump. This keeps it clean and short. Really tight under the dash for this though but it works!

So I got the tach cable measured and made up. I used the original grommet from my truck that had the oil pressure line and manual choke in it. I just removed the choke and added the tach cable. And below it since I moved the washer pump I will use that grommet for my power locks, pitch converter signal and vacuum gauge hose. Should clean up nice

Driver side is pretty much done. It's going to be full Under here. Passenger side will be easy . Not much on that side because of the air conditioning.

I unrolled my carpet for the 1st time since I bought it in 2015. Layer the old rug on it to make sure I had enough and then some vinyl on top to see how they look together. I'm happy.

Starting my passenger fender. I added a under hood light that is on a reel that is vintage like modern trucks have. I used a water tight switch and altered a choke plaquard to the word "LIGHT" for it like the gauges have. It's threaded so a choke knob is what I'll be using to control it.

So is it magnetic on the back so you can just place it wherever needed?

I adapted the overdrive switch to a electric 2 position switch. I added the button for the liquid tire chain to this area in the hole the factory left for line up as well

Rebuilt my engine harness and added my transistor ignition harness to it . I removed the resistance wire from the bulkhead and added a pink one for the electronic ignition. I bought some of the original style loom for the temp wire and the ones that run to the transmission and a/c too.

Laid out my nos floor mat in my cab. Looks like it will fit just fine and will color match nicely. The only bowties in my gmc will be these. I hate it but no other options here.

What about putting GMC logos over the bowties? Might have to get creative but that would fit the build… :)

I got the air cleaner setup on the engine. Rpo k46. It's a oil bath air pre cleaner. Pretty unique. Kind of works like a cold air intake as well from the cowl. I'll have to find/get period correct hoses for it which will be hard to find. Nice thing is the air cleaner has a door on it that seals when it idles so you don't get a fuel smell in the cab back from the cowl in the vents. I assume the air pressure opens this door when the truck starts to move and closes at idle and sucks air out of the bottom .

I never saw this post till now. Rubber is hard to work with. Mabey I could get something machined out of metal or 3d printed in plastic/rubber and press it into the circle around the bowtie. That may be an idea.

That's what I was thinking. You've come so far with your build and done so many cool mods. Why let a small detail like that stop you. Haha

So I asked member ironcainine and he had some decals made at his local decal shop for my transmission temp gauge that matches the color of the gauges and now it looks so much better. I'll have to get new "TRANS" decal as these ones came pretty much transparent for some reasons. Here's a before and after of the gauge color.

Wondering what that cruise control is out of? Haven't seen that model before.

chewychevy67 04-10-2023 07:03 AM

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

The cruise control unit is nos gm correct for the year. If your talking about the piece directly in front of it , that unit is what I'm using to control the overdrive. Turns it on and off at certain speeds. It is a th400 1972 only emission part for manual transmission just used for the overdrive instead.

knuckle-nurse 04-10-2023 11:36 AM

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

Gotcha. What about the 90 degree fitting coming off the other drive, was that with the kit or is part of of the overdrive control?
