Thank you, it sure makes working on stuff easier with the sheet metal out of the way. After everything is sorted (sounds like Edd China ) hanging the body panels will be one of the last things we do.

Thank you, me too! I’ve never had a 67-72 bucket seat truck before and went all in with our C10 and K30 projects. Pretty sure I’m/we’re going to like it a lot as most everything else I’ve owned has been buckets.

Blue has still been carrying on just a bit, had to replace it’s Delco Gold (now discontinued) 42-month battery in the 39th month under the full replacement warranty due to sulfation (yes :metal:, free battery!). It flat would not charge over 12.4 volts period no matter what, here’s a link to describe this issue. http://www.batteryweb.com/library/wh...-batteries.cfm

It’s also still having some fuel starvation troubles, thinking winter blend fuel on the hottest day of the year (96 degrees at that time) lots of heat soak (red lights, stop & starts) it just was too much to ask of the old truck. Installed a helper electrical fuel pump for the bad fuel/hot days scenario, if necessary it may become a primary fuel pump if we have anymore issues.

Tried resetting the combination/prop valve in the truck and that is not an easy task by yourself. Ha, after removing it found that I’d managed to push it all the way the other way from blocking the rear to blocking the front! :banghead: Just glad we have an easy way (?) to re-bleed the rear brakes, happy frogs are back and always ready to help out. ;)

While waiting on brake parts to arrive had at the AC again, here’s our vacuum and then charged pressures with a 94-degree ambient temp. :c2: Yep, that's UV dye on the gauges and I managed to get some in the system also!

Time to rebuild these dust shields prior to installing the fenders.

You betcha, going to start hanging sheet metal next! :ito:

Decided the first CPP replacement combination valve must have been bad (couldn’t have been my fault!)! Ordered another new valve and this little tool that should guarantee my success, it replaces the safety switch until your satisfied with the bleed.

Brake fluid did eat some frame paint off and I’m right back to really, really, poor flow to the rear brakes. Arrrgh! :censored: Found that fluid flows from both the rear input and output lines but not through the actual inline proportioning valve.

Pulled it back out and removed the prop valve off the new part. Arrrgh! :cuss: Found the prop valve was full of oil (and? grease?) so I’m thinking my bad should have cleaned it prior to install. On closer inspection found that even cleaning it wouldn’t allow fluid to move like the original. Don’t usually like to modify new stuff but it was obvious it just wasn’t going to work properly in our application. Opened up the bore just a little bit and tada, we have brake fluid to the back of the truck! Yippy Skippy! :bann:

Ha, after some paint touchup looks exactly like it did in the beginning before all of this! But now our brakes work great and the light on the dash is working correctly. Winning!

Flatbed update; Good news it’s here, bad news they totally disregarded the final revised signed CM drawing! http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...&postcount=956

We were going to wait for tool boxes until it got here for ease of installation and I'd get to pick the box's, that didn’t happen. The fuel fill is not on the right side as we had specified. It is far enough back that we can make it work, just need to rotate the fuel tank 180 degrees. Expected the tail panel to be treadplate but it came in smooth, I'm ok with that, still looks great. All in all, I think it’s going to be a pretty nice bed for our K30. :metal:

Almost sounds to me that all they cared about was selling stock on hand rather than make a revised product for a customer, get a deposit and make him wait until he'll accept what we got kinda deal? Irregardless I'm sure it will look great!

I agree with swamp rat. You should get what you paid for unless they are going to give you some type of discount.

Perhaps, they really seemed to struggle with the passenger side fill. Surprised by the tail panel though as all the RD style beds come with tread plate from my research.

I think so Rick, just glad something showed that we can use. Communication & customer service has not really been a priority for them, we’re just the little guy with one small order.

They’re not a custom shop so perhaps I was expecting too much? The whole drawing thing is something that they don’t usually do according to our salesman.

Flatbed update; Funny thing is that we haven’t actually paid a deposit and I still haven’t accepted the bed yet as of this morning. Earlier when it first came in our salesman was very eager to transport it to the vendor who’s slated to do the install. With my experience with these guys so far, I told him we appreciated it but didn’t want to move it until I could inspect and verify. A week ago from this last Friday (6/30), that’s when the pics were taken I told him that I wasn’t 100% sure that we’d accept the bed.

Still waiting to hear what they are going to do to make it right. Informed the salesman a few days ago that we can make the bed work by reconfiguring our fuel tank, also suggested that we could cut the tool boxes off but I’d need them taken off the total price?

Glued on some weather stripping using tape to hold it in place over night, worked like a charm. Time to adjust and build out the doors.

BANG! Not really, took a couple of days but the doors are almost done, need to redo the window sweep and maybe the fuzzy on the right side. The glass channel catches the fuzzy when rolling it up a ¼” from the top. Figured out the mistake for the left side but the right has gotta be reworked a little, everything else is working perfecto. Going to wait to finish that door (door panel, handles, etc.) for another sweep/fuzzy set that’s ordered to arrive, pretty sure it’s going to ruin the current ones to try and remove.

It's looking very nice Brett! Glue on door seals? Sheesh. I wouldn't go back to them since I got my push on ones. :alc:

Thanks Ryan, you know thinking about it is as far as it got. Had the glue on type that came with our kit so I just used those, we’ll have to try out the push on ones with the C10 project. Seems like you could use the push on style during mockup for door fitment and then remove for paint?

Finally wrapped up most of the head light wiring harness just prior to hanging fenders & the cowl. :ww:

Thanks Ryan! The big Vanilla Ice Cream Sandwich makes a nice contrast to the parts bolted on her.

I’d hoped to have the hood on for today’s pics but didn’t quite make it, maybe this one will do!

Flatbed update; Resolved our issues over the phone yesterday with the local vendor and CM. The local stores general manager got CM to authorize free tool boxes, that’s about a $600 discount off our bill! Cha-Ching!

That’s really nice of you too say Mike, I appreciate it thank you! You’re doing a great job on the Swamp Rat. Honestly the bed deal is working out pretty sweet, got the really good deal and when we are done I won’t even have to walk around the truck to fill it up!

Flatbed update; It’s go time now we own it, went down last Friday to conclude business and arrange the transportation of the bed to our install vendor (no charge to us). Next stop was Semi Service to make sure that we’re on their schedule. Wanted to meet the service department representative and get an idea of how things are going to work. http://www.semiservice.com

Thanks $20071k10! We kept all the parts used through this build as either a 72 or 84 Chevrolet/GMC, so it’s an 84 Blazer/Suburban 31-gallon w/large neck. Page’s 16-17 of the build covers the fuel tank mockup here’s a link to part numbers in post #400. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...&postcount=400

There was an epic fuzzy battle that took place and I’ll say the fuzzy put up a good fight! :hc: Window does roll all the way up much better than before and with the door panel installed the interior is 98% done, just four or five very small jobs left (sill plates, etc.). No pics, but a top coat on the inner fenders/wheel wells, bumper brackets etc. did happen.

Thanks Ryan! Yep me too, almost impossible not to scratch up stuff when your messing with these. Used tape several times to help protect the finish and did a round of touchup after removing the first just prior to installing the second new set.

Yes sir, it’s been milked long enough and with the bed install date quickly approaching, it’s go time! :sumo: Thanks a lot Jim, you and your build have been a great help! How’s that huge shop your building coming along?

Got the inner fenders installed, buttoned up the last under the hood to do’s… while some new stuff showed up. Needed to rework the new grill insert just a little (quik sand & repaint) but hey LMC gave it to us for our trouble, sahweet! :metal:

I thought it fit great to the repop surround it went in, very tight, my thumbs are still sore from installing the plastic clips!

Yes, the K30’s getting its face! Used all original OEM brackets behind the surround and grill. Riveted it in place with a new install kit, I’ve got no complaints about the repop stuff. LMC did offer to send another grill after they saw the pics. After waiting a couple days and getting out my best grills it seemed the quickest solution was to do a quick repair on the new grill rather than wait for another to arrive.

Dieselwrencher 07-27-2017 02:42 PM

Re: 72 K30 Build

That's great the outer fits great! I've wondered how they actually did. The price isn't bad when you think how many hours you'll have in straightening and polishing an OEM one. I have over 40hrs in the one for my 72 and it isn't done yet. It won't be going on it now either due to my front bumper. Guess I have to find another truck to put it on. Haha

7dee2 07-28-2017 09:14 AM

Re: 72 K30 Build

Me too, inquiring minds! But I’ll say these repro pieces are pretty nice, and fit very well. Sprung for the whole enchilada including LMC’S premium bumper. :uhmk:

Here’s with the bumper installed and an open garage door for some light. Hadn’t started it since the front clip went on, everything seems to be functioning AOK! Hopped in and moved it back and forth a little, running the AC and radio for a few minutes as well. Really, big grin followed! :D

Flatbed update; Plan is to drop the fuel tank and spin it around for our left-hand fill bed (righty to a lefty). Get it out of the garage and go for a test putt around the block prior to loading it up for our Tuesday install appointment. Once it’s back I’ll start the shake down process.
