Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Thank's 71, and welcome to the board! Any more pic's of your rigs? Staying in touch with my friend John at CHAOS offroad, hopefully get back to working on my axles soon! Started working on cleaning up my np205 transfer case for the swap, a lot of dirt and grease buildup on outside of case. Want to clean up the exterior and get a decent coat of paint on it before resealing it and installing it when the axles go in. I guess I had better finish putting my new kerosene heater together to warm up the barn!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Worked on cleaning up the np205 transfer case today. Trying to find a ID tag, or ID numbers. I did find some casting numbers on the back of the case, but was hoping for something more to help ID it. Got a lot more gunk to clean off it, maybe it's there somewhere! Pulled the transmission to t-case adapter off, and the plate off the rear. Inside looks real clean and good. Just hoping to ID the case so I can order up the right seal and gasket kit. Bought this np205 from Sharpie a few years ago, said it came out of a 1971 suburban, should be right to swap into my 70 K5 right?

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Another trip to the car wash, and still not done! Getting close, but it all has to be really clean before paint! Made a mess in the barn, put down some floor dry! Tatto the floor!

Got a real nice 4x4 technical manual for the NP205 transfer case today. 85 pages, color photos, complete teardown-rebuild pics! www.quad4x4.com Also got the new kerosene heater all ready to go, just need to pick up some pure K-1 fuel by this weekend! Still working on cleaning up the t-case, just need some heat in the barn!

#2 diesel works fine in the kerosene heater and is much cheaper.

Thank's, I do have this weekend off and hope to get some more done on the t-case! Going back on overtime again next week, but I guess that's not all bad!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Got the t-case/465 adapter cleaned up and the rear aluminum cover cleaned up to my satisfaction. Bolted them back up to the t-case and dragged it down to the lower garage. Sprayed down with cleaner for now, off to power wash asap! Man these np205's are kinda heavy!

Working on cleaning up the case, I tryed to lift the case up into the tailgate of my 04 GMC but couldnt do it by my self. Gonna bolt on the rear hitch tray tommorrow and tow it on there and head to the car wash!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Well I am still here, just had a small setback on my K5 fund. My daily driver needed a new frt. wheel bearing hub assy and a complete rear brake job. Ouch!, just when my fund was starting to get decent again. Oh well working major overtime again, I'll get there!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

I think I have all the steel replacement metal for my K5 resto. I need torsion boxs, floorboards, etc., welded in. Anyone know of a body shop in Michigan that is knowledgable in 1st gen resto? Or anyone somewhat close to me willing to take this on? I have a few friends that can weld really well, but have never worked on a 1st gen K5. I really want this done right, and am looking for someone who knows what it takes to do this. Hopefully I will get my 1 ton axles finished and installed soon, and can move on to this next step. Anybody got any info/ideas?

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Wow, no help here? Got all these parts from Wes at ClassicHeartbeat and need to get them welded in soon. Any help here would be great!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

any body shop should be ok,,they dont have to know gen 1 blazers specific,,as long as they are reputiable..it should be ok,,or just tackle it yourself..thats what i did,,mine was similar to yours,,but it has come out lookin pretty good

Thank's Hilljob. Working on saving up funding, it just gets kind of depressing, waiting so long. Really want to start making some progress on this soon.

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Well no progress on the axles, but I did order up some needed interior parts. Got a set of metal door panels and arm rests coming tommorrow. Also got a steering wheel puller so I can swap out my wheel. Etc, Etc! Good thing I am still working some overtime!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

Starting to run some R&D on my 383 stroker swap. Looking for some advice on what carburetor to run and a simple waterproof air intake system to run. Trailriding, some mudbogging, mild hillclimbing, not much real rockclimbing, some on road use will be the focus. Any ideas or pic's of what you guys are running? Don't really want to go with fuel injection yet and have to upgrade the fuel delivery setup at this point. Looking for ideas?

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!

The best carb for any off-road, hill climb, bouncy situations, is by far the Quadrajet. I've used the edelbrock, holly, and the quad. Edelbrock was the worst, even with spring loaded needles, and low fuel pressure. I've seen the quadrajet still running with a jeep standing straight up in the air, about to tip over backwards.
Try not to get discouraged on your slow progress. I restore stuff for a living, and it has still taken 4 1/2 years to get my build to where it's at!
