Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Thanks again!!

Managed to do a little on the truck today.
One small step in the right direction, I'm getting there

I have made a little dash for extra gauges, I like to know what the engine is doin' :smoke:
Bolted it onto the dash and looked what the best angle is to mount it.

This is with a 90 degree bent:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-J...2/P1270086.JPG

This is bolted so, that it follows the line of the columnmount.
Hope you see the difference:

I think I'm going with the last one.
A few more, just because ;)

This part is going to be gloss black, as the rest of the interior.

Thanks guys!

Small update:
Got my newly made steering hoses mounted, steeringpump bolted on, belts are on, and the header bolted on (I hope for the last time )

Next is re-routing the brakelines to the mastercilinder.

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Kee's - this is looking really good man! congrats on the progress.

For the dash - you might want to run that bottom 'skirt' on both sides of the wheel. Your gauges would fit right into it and look really clean. and I see some more pinstriping on it too!!! ;) Im doing mine the whole width, but I dont have a glove box cover to get in the way.

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Thanks Mark and PTC!

I thought about doin' the whole dashbottom, but what you say, I have a glovebox...
Have to think about how I go around it and is nice to look at.

Tonight a few hours making a puzzle for the electric fans.
Have to make threads on the long bars, weld brackets on it, weld a few brackets on the radiatorbrackets and I'm done :metal::lol:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-e...2/IMG_2774.JPG

Only thing is, these are a bit too wide, they are 12", so they're cooling the sidetanks also
But hey, cooling is very important, isn't it??

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Did some small things that took a lot of time...

First I welded the fan bracket:
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/81...=w1122-h842-no

I also got the Central locking system working :metal:
I bolted the actuators under the latch between the sheetmetal and the windowrail.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-c...2/IMG_2784.JPG

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-A...2/IMG_2780.JPG

I took some parts home to get it painted:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-v...2/P1270096.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-y...2/P1270097.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-e...2/P1270098.JPG

For the keyless entry I have a remote with a flipkey in it.
I changed the keybeard (for Volkswagen and Audi) for my ingnition key. I don't have the keys for the doorlocks, so I'm counting on the remotes ;)
I will put an emergencybutton under the hood for if the remotes don't work :mm:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Q...2/P1270100.JPG https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-j...2/P1270101.JPG

Also, I got my brakelines re-routed to the MC, that's done and ready to bleed the brakes.
Made a bracket for the tach, I mount this on the column, also ready.
Next time when I'm at the Hot Rod Shed, I will begin with the doors, make them ready for paint.
I'm getting there!!

Very creative on the locks Kees! Cool!

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Thanks Doug!
I have to be creative without normal locks. This will work (I hope).

I just read about Classic 1st Timer about his stolen '55 TF.
It could happen here also, so everything to keep the thieves out ;)

Sometimes things take forever, but your happy in the end. All you can do is make it a pain in the A$$ to steel. Nice fan bracket.

Re: Dutch '59 Fleetside Longbed

Had a few hours in the Hot Rod shed and got the passenger door primered.
Finally....
And only the inside that is ;)

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Y...2/IMG_2788.JPG

I also went from floorshift to steering columnshift, so I have to make a new shifter rod.
OrrieG gave me the great tip on the measurements of the Chevy linkage:

Just a heads up. On GM for the shift indicator to match the transmission the distance from the center line of the column shaft to the linkage hole needs to be the same as the center line of the trans shift shaft to shift rod linkage hole. I spent some time on trial and error before I found a link with that nugget of information. So if you lengthened the one on the column you will need to do the same to the trans shaft lever.

I took off the old transbracket and modified it. Then I took a piece of threaded M8 bar and made a rod.
At home I will make this rod in stainless steel.
Maybe this afternoon, it will be the last thing I do this year....;)
