Re: Nostalgia - Pics in Time.
oh the days when you could set up your chair next to the track and the only thing separating you from the action was a flag covered rope.

This picture is from New Orleans after Hurricane Betsy hit in 1965, users of the St. Charles streetcar line got public transportation again as New Orleans Public Service Inc. put buses on this run. The "Car Stop" is for the streetcar, but with all the debris on the neutral ground, they had to stop the cars from running and replace them with buses temporarily.

Geez, those aren't exactly a bunch of twigs there.
|
Re: Nostalgia - Pics in Time.
Yep that was some old growth timber there. Back then that was about all they cut for lumber.........it made for much better lumber than what we have available today. That truck in the middle has 5 logs on it, and it is a load.

Re: Nostalgia - Pics in Time.
I remember that day well.......May 18th 1980. We didn't get that much ash up here, but enough to make a mess.

That pic of Maurice J. Sopp Chevrolet has got to be from the 30's but it is so crisp and clear.

Re: Nostalgia - Pics in Time.
Great color shots 60-66, thanks for sharing! The rim color on the '61 burb has got me puzzled
|
Re: Nostalgia - Pics in Time.
These photos , some of them , were colorized . Same photo is a couple pages back in black and white as original. Some seem much sharper also. What do you see on the rim Factorystock ?

I would think that Rambler would be worthy of a parking ticket being so close to the fire hydrant. Also, there's a parking meter next to the car in front of the Rambler, but no meter next to the Rambler. Quote:

I think the rim is black the truck in front of the suburban has the same coloring in parts of that rim ?

Re: Nostalgia - Pics in Time.
Its funny that we look back on this time as nostalgia, when most of the folks were looking toward the future with anticipation. Route 66 was in its heyday - and most could not wait for the MODERN 4-6 lane interstate to push on through.......Go Figure.
BUT folks back then mostly had the same problems we got, only not so much in debt I think and of course our Country was king of the world back them too..... |

Coolest thing is that I lived in Burlington from 1972-1974 for my Fathers job. You could fly to Burlington on Ozark Airlines prop planes. The airport wasn't big enough for jets then. Simple times. |
