Looks good, George. Glad somebody's making progress. So are you getting your body work done as we speak? I'm trying to tell from your pictures...

No I wish I were. But my Brother-In-Law had a emergency and had to fly to New York. So it has been set back untill the 24th of Aug. Family come first. I told him to take care of his daughter first. This old truck is not in a hurry. I purchased a steering column for the truck today. A used stock column no tilt. This way I can use a 68 steering wheel. Which I really like.

Well, a major set back today. Can't do my body work untill Aug. the 24th. A family emengerency came up. So family come first. Anyway I don't mind. It is going to take two week inns to do the work. So the cab first and them the bed last. I just hope and pray that his daughter is ok.

In the meantime George you can concentrate on getting it running and driving so that by the time you get it painted you can go cruising.

Nice parts George, I bet you are anxious to hear the engine run.

Re: 1968

I am not so sure about the power steering pump. The pully is bent and the bolt, the treads are really bunged up. I don't know If I could cut the bolts off and weld another in it's place or not.
ordered the steering column today. I hope it turns out ok.

Who ever sold you that power steering pump is really dishonest, unfortunately it happens, sorry to hear that George, I hope you didn't pay very much for it, you can probably use it as a core for a remanufactured one.

Re: 1968

Yea, it really isn't that much of a loss. This is the first part that I bought a part off the parts board that didn't work for me. I am not really upset over it. Like you said I can still use it as a core charge. So I might even come out ahead anyway. I ordered 120 pcs. set of shrink tubing. Couldn't find or misplaced my soldering gun. I ordered another one from harbor frieght. I am going to order my wiring harness from speedway. They have a special going on and I will take advantage of it. So guys I will start on my wiring maybe in a couple weeks. This is something that I have been trying to get out of. I know I can do it, but just thinking about it it hurts my back. Had a good day today. I did not do nothing again.

Hey setx67 it really is not that big of a deal.(steering pump) I will use it as a core charge

New pumps are pretty cheap. I decided to just get a new one. You will figure it out, though. I got faith in you.

It will maybe cool off soon. My parents left today to stay 3 months in Florida, down near Sarasota. I may try to see them there in late October. Maybe I can stop by and see old Patches, and bring you some parts if you have any coming from up this way.

Thanks a lot. I hope to have a lot of progress this month. Body work, shoot some color or more color, wiring, and the rest of the brake lines. Need two brake lines for the rear end and one for the rail.

Today I packaged some parts up that I sold. Also it was my birthday so I took it off. I will go to the parts place tomorrow and buy a red wire set for my new HEI distributor. I hope to find a 3'' air filter also. I have a stock 3'' but looking for something different. I like the way the purple ones look.

Well I finshed runing the brake lines to the rear. Here is the stuff I odered.

two rear mirrow arms. Black which I will paint orange.
two small rear mirrow to fit on the arms. which I also will paint orange
1 chrome flasher knob for the column
1 set of red distributor wires for HEI
1 boe tie for the air filter chrome and red Thenut on top of the air filter is shaped like a bow tie.
2 rear brake lines for accross the rear end. They said they were two weeks out. So a little set back.
1 set of hold downs for the distributors wires.

Mustard72 08-04-2013 09:53 PM

Re: 1968

What do you mean by chrome and red bow tie for the air filter? I thought you already had an air filter.

I bet you'll be glad to get rid of the points. I know I will be with mine.

gdavis 08-05-2013 09:49 AM

Re: 1968

Nick, The turn nut on top of the chrome air filter is shaped like a bow tie with red insert.
that is what I ordered.

George maybe this will help others understand the air filter nut

Re: 1968

well today I recieved my auto column for my old girl. Got it striped and painted gloss black.
My wires came in also and the Edelbrock valve covers. So I went to the Advance Auto Parts here locally and purchased a valve cover gasket set. I had a cork gasket set but was not in love with it. The one I got was cork and rubber conbinded. They said it was the a good one.

My daughter got the wire set for me for my birthday. What a girl. She is my tom girl. She knows what her dad likes.

Re: 1968

The only thing I need now to start the truck is a wiring harness and a power steering pump. I have to adjust the valves on the engine. Maybe I will do that tomorrow. It is just time consuming. The engine has to be turned by hand. I guess I better go and find me a battery box. I will be needing one anyway. My old one was a little ate up. There was a board for the battery box tray ad bungey straps holding it together.
