Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
Well the front sensors are hooked up and real close to the 2 3/4" of travel they require. My fine tuning now will just be a matter of moving the lower mount tab in or out on the lower control arm. I also have the rears made but I did not have time tonight to shorten the links. I will do that Thursday after work and then let the system tune it self!!

Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
Very nice install, looks sweet, and sure will look awesome when finished. Must be nice to not have to worry about the p/s box mounting since u have the rack, thats always good, makes for a nice mirror image on the parts. Again, great work....

The tahoe pic I posted was posted on Craigslist located in san bruno, ca. you might be able to find in if you search the san fransico autos 4 sale section. THIS IS NOT MINE just saw it on craigslist. Hope that solves the mystery. Tony from Norcal |
Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
Sorry for the hijack Kev. Thanks for the info 64shortc10. I'm not interested in buying another one. It's just interesting how one is build and obviously influenced by projects on this board, yet not posted here.

So I think this makes 4 Tahoes in the works that I am aware of so far. (2) 4 doors and 2 of the rare 3 doors. The big question is who will have one finished up and completed first:lol: Kevin LFD Inc. |

Wow! Great build and even better coverage. Can't wait to see it finished. You are a great source of inspiration, man! Thanks!

I didn't know you sold the Blazer. Sounded like you had some huge tricks up your sleeve for it. What about your wife's GMC? |
Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
Hmm! LFD vs FF! Sound like a boxing match! "Okay fellows. No welding below the belt! At the sound of the bell, come out welding!"

There's no vs. here. They'll get done when it's time for them to get done. No doubt that won't be at the same time
Sounds like a wise move Kevin. Capability brings far more opportunity than possessions (unless those possessions are tools!). |

Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
No Tahoe progress, I need to jack it up and rearrange a few things on the AccuAir then roll it out of the shop and due the How-To article.
But I did play a bit to night with the 41. The owner wants a 1 piece hood and not the 4 piece they have stock. He also wants it to open from the front and that means it needs to hinge in the rear. Problem with that is these hoods are singe skin and have no bracing to speak of. So I am working on a rear hood brace that once finished will weld to the rear and about the rear 8" of the side of the hood. Then the hinges will mount to this piece. So here is the start of that brace. This is just the mock up piece and once all the shapes are figured out I will make the final piece. Kevin LFD Inc. Looks like you're already putting the new tools to use!

Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
I am curious how you do it, i have a 41 waiting to get some extreme mods.
On my 38 I did the one piece hood already. http://www.xs4all.nl/~sand1938/album...ide%20hood.jpg This is not how it is now but the frame is still in the hood. i have a nice rigid hood like this. ( i ditched the gas cylinders) The hinges disappear almost completely under the dash so if i want to ride without the hood it still looks good. You can see more pictures at my homepage. I hope you post the progress on the 41 because that is the truck i really like. |
Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
Front Firewall tub time! Even with the DMC4 I had to tub the firewall out to fit my 29.5" tall tires so I can drive and turn some when it is laid out. I took some 18ga AKDQ and made two matching tubs using my English wheel and shrinkers. I took two 1" strips of metal and shrunk one side to get the shape I needed and then wheeled up the tubs to match the template and each other.
Then I cut out the passenger side firewall and made sure everything fit and cleared the tires at full dump and full lock on the steering. Once that all fit and the pass side was tacked in place I made two templates so the drivers side would be the same. Then I simply cut it out and tacked the new one into place. Once the body comes off I finish weld everything and reshape the firewall and smooth it out as well. Now that this part is done I am headed out to finish up the AccuAir install for the write up and Video. Kevin LFD Inc. Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
Also note that even know the tire looks like it is touching the firewall at full drop it is clear, but only by 1/8". That is plenty since I will never get full turn lock to lock when it is aired out because of a small problem called fenders! I will be getting close but never full lock. All in all it was about 6 hours from start to finish and I am sure trailer fenders would have been about half that time but it was worth the extra 3 hours in my book.

Re: LFD's 4dr Tahoe Build
You should have just trimmed the tire back a little :)
And, as with most projects... one thing leads to another. Time to move your wiring harness and fise box. |
