quick question, i have everything unbolted and unplugged, ready to pull out....except the driveshaft. im having a huge mental lapse with pulling this driveshaft. is this the kind of ujoint that needs to be pressed out? i removed the clips but the damn u joint doesnt move at all.

I can't remember what you have there. Does that shaft just pull out of the tail housing or does it have a nut on it? Do you have the other end of the shaft loose? You are probably not going to get that u-joint apart while it is still under the truck. LockDoc |

found a knock off holley 302-2 pan kit for the motor. trying to stock pile some stuff together for now.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/402091342885 also, going with this 21 circuit rewire kit off amazon. basically a knock off of the EZ wire kit. i know, its not a big name brand, but im on a budget here and hope it works out |

The wiring kit may be a little more work but it shouldn't be that hard to get sorted out if you have the old one to lay out and duplicate. Let us know how it works out. LockDoc |

no updates yet, been putting a little money in my avalanche but about to get started on the suburban again soon hopefully. been doing some remodeling in my house also, floor guy is supposed to come this week. either way I have no choice to at least get my motor in by October, as the city now all of a sudden wants my neighborhood (non HOA by the way) to not have any "junk vehicles" unless they are behind a fence. soooo, had to spend 400 to make a fence around my suburban, and have until October to get rid of the donor vehicle. |

finally a little progress....somewhat. drove my donor truck in the driveway and started the teardown. I been picking at it since Sunday but I'm hoping to have the drive train out by next week. meanwhile, after pulling the intake... this motor looks filthy

Sounds good! It all takes time, especially if you are still working. I started on a new project too and have had some interruptions. Just keep plugging away at it a little bit at a time and before you know it you will be driving it. LockDoc |

huge setback with this motor...was draining the oil to get it on the stand and a ton of milkshake came out....kind of down to 2 options now. called my buddy where I got it from and he said he has another 2001 tahoe I could get. but I have to sell what I have and whatever I get would go to him for the other truck. other option would be to pull the heads and send them to get rebuilt and/or pressure tested for cracks or warps.

Well that sucks. Maybe it will be something simple like a gasket or "O" ring somewhere. I know that isn't really simple either but maybe you won't have to pull the whole thing.... LockDoc |

Personally I would probably pull the heads and have them checked then I would know what kind of shape the cylinders are in. And of course I wouldn't be able to NOT pull the oil pan and inspect the oil pump. The evil demon "Project Creep" has arisen again. |
