Joe, I dont think those nuts will be really too bad to get loose. I know they are down in there but I'd hit the weld with a cut-off wheel and see if the whole weld wont come loose and fly off there. I cut some on my exhaust like that and they werent prepped well so the weld just held the nut from spinning, but not good penetration.

Dont get bogged down filling all those holes on the frame or you'll never catch Alan;). I also dont want to call you 'Chip', but I will if I have too:lol:.

:haha::haha:....I thought that was what I was going to see after your last post. Not bad anyway, maybe a sawzall too. I see that the truck had 73+ a-arms already....that must have been the 'upgrade', huh?

yeah, dad-in-law, years ago, swapped in an entire cross member and rear differential from a mid 80's 1/2 ton truck

You have your work cut out for you on that frame Joe. Will you have it sand blasted? It will save you a lot of time and you'll get a great job. I did a 1946 Ford frame that way, and then got it power coated.
This is before I had it power coated.

yeah, gonna have it blasted
probably going to use paint, don't like the fact when powder gets scratched or chipped, there isn't a good way to touch it up.....
this truck will get driven, and on dirt and gravel roads even ;)

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build

POR-15 is the way to go then. It's supposed to be chip resistant. I'm going to use it on my own frame. The 46 Ford Frame was a customers. He loved the way it came out. But I think the POR-15 will look just as good, and a lot cheaper.

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build

yeah I was thinking that or Zero-Rust and also a top coat......

Strodder 03-24-2009 10:52 PM

Re: Our '66 Short Fleet Build

ZERO RUST won't ship to California. It's almost half the price of POR-15, and is supposed to have about the same benefits. According to ZERO RUST. That's what they told me before they said they couldn't ship it to me.

I think I have 4 coats of POR-15 on my back half so far. ;)

Two base coats
Two coats of chasis black

I have to admit that powercoated frame looks hot. To bad I went with a flat look. ;)
