Re: My 1965 build thread
Hate to say it but if the clear is fresh you could sand it blend the color back then reclear.. That spot in ther rear may be hard to see when blended.
|
Re: My 1965 build thread
Have you figured out the run situation yet Alan? You going to take a lot of tedious wet sanding and try and not go through or sand it down and re clear?
|
Re: My 1965 build thread
Man, Allan, the more I read your thread the more impressed I am with your skills. Your painting is outstanding. I had a run similar to yours in a door, luckily, I could use a block to sand it our and keep it level. That one is in a tricky spot since the panel is concaved. I know that you will make it right!:metal:
Really digging your colors. You have insired me to work on mine again and to get my shop started. I think I asked before, but what size is your home shop? |

Re: My 1965 build thread
Allan, I've been gone since Friday. Man your getting some work done. :metal: It's coming out really good. I like the color combo even more now, Fish Eyes, and runs suck. Don't they have a tool to shave off runs? Then color sand them out.

Ok here is the process I went thru in sanding out a run. It took me about an hour taking my time. In that amount of time I could have sanded and recleared. Then there is the materials cost. I've still got 3 more to work out. What would really suck is sand thru on the last one. With this process it can still happen, but not as much. This is what I used. there are other products that can be used. http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/DSC09731.jpg Apply it sparingly. It takes along time to sand it off. http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/DSC09730.jpg This a small block I cut from a large paint stir stick. I used 1000 grit and went over it with 2000 prior to buffing. http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/DSC09733.jpg Sanding progress http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/DSC09735.jpg http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/DSC09736.jpg Mini air powered buffer http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/DSC09738.jpg Buffed but still needs a little more. http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...b/DSC09739.jpg |
Re: My 1965 build thread
I had a container of that in my hand after our pm's. I think the glaze is what I really need to use. Thats a good use for it cutting those runs down.

Re: My 1965 build thread
Great work Alan. It's little tricks like these that help edjumacate us all on paint/body. Keep it up!
|
Re: My 1965 build thread
:agree:
keep it up!! I saw a trick on tv to use a razor blade perpendicular to the surface and scrape the run down then you can sand to smooth it out, then buff.... any thoughts? |
Re: My 1965 build thread
I have one of these, it works pretty good but ill have to try the glaze sometime.

Re: My 1965 build thread
I try to get you as much rep points as I can Alan but it says I have to spread some around before I can give you some more. Who wants some!

Re: My 1965 build thread
Alan,
I know what your saying about the rep points...but we can only spread so many during the 24 hours or only so many on a thread... So, take it from someone who can't wait for your updates on your rig and I hope I'm not speaking for myself but I enjoy and learn so much from your post. rep points or not......:metal: So it's not the rep points, it's the veiws to your thread you should be aware of. over 53,000, that's way more than Joe and his steak...;) I meen we are all still waiting on the update on the cabinets.... Thanks Alan |

Project kitchen cabinet overhaul is still going on. When time permits now. Once I get the cab done and on the frame it's break time somewhat from the truck. The cabinets are painted. I still have to do some wiring, sheetrock, paint and counter tops. I used to love doing home improvements, but can't stand it now. |
Re: My 1965 build thread
No you should have...alot of folks read your post and move on...
No one said your a rep whore did they???????????????:lol: you help a lot of folks out here. And we thank you... |
Re: My 1965 build thread
Gotta say I don't know anything about the Rep points and I started reading your thread when you were on page 36 and I've read every post. This is honestly one of the most informative pieces of work I've ever read on the internet. What you've shown is awesome and worthy of as much rep as you want. The fact that you take time out of your already crazy busy days to share your tips and tricks to help out people, some of which in the business world may be your competitors is a true gesture of good faith. I look forward to reading the updates everyday so keep them coming. Thanks

Re: My 1965 build thread
I'm still confused about the Rep thing. :dohh: I read the whole thread about it. I must have missed something. What do you have to do to get a Rep, and where in your User CP do you see how many you have, even if you don't have any? Maybe I'll have to read it again, only slower this time.
|
Re: My 1965 build thread
I just saw it. I have 59 reps. Wahoooooo
|
Re: My 1965 build thread
Hey Alan what type of paint and tip did you spray your cabinets with, I'm wanting to spray a pic nic table with sealer, would be a lot easier, and my fence.
Also before you were talking about doing a video of how to's, anything going on with that. I have a 64 so it would really help me out! |

As far as the video goes, I just don't have the time right now. It will mainly cover repairing dents and filler work. Maybe someday I can get it done. If the sales are good I could fund my truck build, because the money tree died. I got all of the runs buffed last night and was hoping to sit the cab back on the frame. Then I realized I've got a few things to do first like drill and mount the tranny cross member. I wish I had some headers so I could go ahead and get them in with the cab off. Hope ya'll have a great day!! |
