So I got the final drafts of the pieces I'm getting made. I am getting a plaquard for the fog lights made as well. It will be black and go where the choke goes oon the gauge bezel

I used a 65 El Camino steering wheel in my truck...it just looks so much better in my opinion. |
Re: 67 GMC super custom build
That steering wheel is beautiful. Waaay nicer than what was put into the trucks.

So I had removed the extra temp light in the past and added a tow script but I scrapped that idea and added the overdrive script to it so now I will know when my overdrive is engaged or not when it lights up.

I didn't like the look of the overdrive words in the red color as it isn't a warning so I changed it to blue. It is just supposed to let you know that the overdrive unit is turned on. Won't be as hard on the eyes either in blue.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
Let the record show that almost 2.5 years, 200 posts, and probably 20 mods ago...you said you were done with mods.
:four: Can't stop. Won't stop. And I love it!!!! Looks awesome bud. |

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
While I wait for metal work I just can't sit idle. Its a disease i tell you. I better get it all out now cause nothing is coming apart (unless its for repair) for mods after it is assembled.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
It's a disease that I enjoy looking at.

Well progress has slowed. When I added the fog lights I used a 71 72 chevy bumper as the outer bumper bolts are further to the outside to clear the signal lights. So I got bumper brackets for this bumper and they almost fit without modification. I had a small spot I had to concave . I also had the shop weld in the recessed areas by the signal lights only 69 up gmc trucks had.

I got my stuff back from the 3d printing place today. He made me a whole bunch of washers for the cab to fender seals and my fog light and ignition plaquard. Turned out pretty cool.

Here's how it will look in the dash with the ignition and lettering lit up.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
That’s a cool feature. Very Cadillac-esque from that era.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
Very cool build man, I just read the entire thing.
The fact that you have so much in there as far as old parts go is pretty wild. Excited to see it as a finished truck. |

OK so I had some free time today and I've been thinking about this for a while.. the mirror bses had a hole in each one that is where the cables ran in on the car they were for but now they were unused. So I made little lenses for them and ran an led bulb that matched the color of the door lick ring and made a puddle light. It's kind of overkill buti had to fill these holes anyway. They will come on with the lock lights for 30 seconds when the door handles , in or out, move.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
Those on/off pieces are pretty neat. I'll be checking out the first 28 of your build soon.

nice mod! that's a great idea, love it!

Re: 67 GMC super custom build
Thanks guys . I was concerned that this might be to modern for this build but after humming and hawing I decided that as long as you can't blatenly see these in the mirror arms I'd do it. I can't make them work with the power locks like modern vehicles as they are vacuum operated but still should work nicely.

I have no problem with modern add ons for these trucks just trying to keep this build all 60s-70s appearing.

Well I put my seat in to make sure I could adjust my mirrors properly and I got side tracked. I worked these seat skirts from a 61-62 cadillac to fit around my buddy seats. They will hold the seat switch.

Got the passenger side switch mounted now to. Just on the passenger side cadillacs has a body by fisher emblem. I obviously don't want that and I can't weld up the holes because the metal is stamped to look like leather so I'm going to have to make something to go there. Possibility are endless I suppose. Now to make mounting brackets for these.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

So I felt the mirrors may be a bit unstable when driving and I didn't want them to turn while they vibrate (because on these arms they all do) so I made a sleve on the arm that holds it more steady and here's a slot in the sleeve that lines up with a key like part on the chrome stem so it can't spin at all. Im not sure I'll be able to put the lights in the mirrors with these sleeves on the mirrors. I may have to get creative there. Not much room inside there with the cables running thru there now.

Got these mirrors all mocked up so the mirrors adjust to areas that are proper. Not much mirror to view out of though as they are only 5 inches around. Went to a pub in Hudson Bay SK last night and they have this 68 outside the building. The pub is full of vintage views all around. Thought it was neat.

So I assembledmy mirrors and my thermometer and when i lit the thermometer up it was fairly bright in the mirror chrome. Wasn't sure I liked that and dont want to get in trouble for front lighting by the cops so being that the arm will be painted black i figured I would paint the inside of the lens black as well to block the lighting. I think it turned out well.

So one more post before the new year. I added the full word TRANSMISSION under the gauge instead of TRANS. I just felt all the gauges use full words and this one shortened just looked out of place. Have a happy new years everybody.

Well I wanted to mount the mirror remote in the door panel but the lip isn't wide enough and the raised insert gets in the way. I kind of figured this might happen. Soooo....... I don't have many options here. I hate to make holes here on the door top or in the dash above the ac vent but that's all I really have. What are your guys opinions here? Any other cars out there you have seen that have mirror locations like these 2?
|
Re: 67 GMC super custom build
i think on the door looks good and more like where they would have put it if it was stock. Dash doesnt look bad either though, but sounds like a lot more work to get it routed. :)

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

I don't think I like the dash the more I look at it. I found this picture of a period car. The door looks like the best option for this. And it's right across from the mirror so it makes sense what its for. Now do I do it right in the corner or in the center of the vent window?
|
Re: 67 GMC super custom build
id vote corner :)
|
Re: 67 GMC super custom build
I agree. The more I look at era gm cars door panels they're I think if this was factory that's where it would be.
