I stopped by East Bay Tire (Fairfield, California) yesterday to look at their STA tires. I want the 8-17.5s like came on our truck (still need help finding the rims) but if I cant find the 17.5s I will have to stick with 16s we already have - similar to the 7.50-16 shown.

Both tires look great if you like the tall skinny maximum traction type of tires. Here are some pics. The 8-17.5 has a very distinct center grove and the 7.50-16 have a more aggressive knob tread but no center groove. They're both about the same outer diameter but the side wall is taller on the 7.50-16.

Here is a link the the STA web page - http://www.stausaonline.com/light-tr...r-traxion.html The 17.5s are sold as Fig "B" and the 16s are sold as Fig "A" on this page.

Those pics of the 7.50-16 brought back memories of the bias-ply (8PR) Armstrong tires I had installed the day I bought my truck, in 1977. Stiff as anything, but excellent off-road traction.

Oh not your fault, I went to post another link and I couldn't get them to post, so I gave up. Maybe something was up with the site at the time or something, who knows. Never had a problem before. (shrug)

Dont click on the link on post #46, it's got a bad virus on it.

Someone who knows how to get ahold of moderators may want to have them delete it.

Sorry, I clicked on the link and all h... broke loose. Phony virus alert, hard drive buzzing like crazy, locked screen, took 2 days to get rid of it. Missing a ton of saved info, and all of my favorites. That's good if it is a clean link, but I am not going there any time soon.

Yes they are. Great tires made by Cooper and the only place that has a warranty on muds 40,000 mile. They are 285-75-16s.. Took the big wide ones off and love the skinny ones.. Next is all new trim and paint..

If you ever get down this way give me a yell and we can get some Good Fish Tacos and a Corona on the Beach. I actually went up to San Francisco area to purchase my '66. It sure is some beautiful country in NorCal.

Has anybody tried a tire like this? I'm thinkin' one of these would run 200,000+ miles.

You know, I've looked at something similar, they look like 18-wheeler tires. BFG Commercial T/As are similar.
