Re: Jimmy/Detroit Diesel Videos
No offense there Mike.
If I wasn't impressed with it, I wouldn't had posted it. Keep us posted on your progress. |

Other projects have been taking priority as we speak unfortunately. Right now all my time is going to my '69 GMC Crew cab project. That one is going to be powered with a 4-53T Detroit and a Fuller 10 speed! I may have to invest in some earplugs along the way! Mike |

I hear you. I think the deal was, one day they decided to outlaw all 2-strokes from on road use. What next, chainsaws?
Those Dodges were humpin' it, weren't they. No wimpy flat and level track here. A true test to who's the top dog...dge  |
Re: Jimmy/Detroit Diesel Videos
Looked like fresh logs in the winner Dodge and seasoned wood in the loser rig;)

I think there is an air quality sensor and alarm that is activated every time a 2 stroke is brought over the state line.. or chugs into port.... Ever wonder why...less 2 stroke dirt bikes.. less string trimmers.. leaf blowers.. Detroits.. You can thanks CARB.. I even remember reading an article about required "clean cam and injector" requirements on all marine Detroits.. within California use.. I just picked up a brochure for my 77 Chevrolet HV70 truck... and even though the 6V53 is listed as the first engine choice.. it also states.. "Not for sale in California"... . |
Re: Jimmy/Detroit Diesel Videos
Here an interesting 9500. It is listed as a '66, but if that year is correct, it looks like they changed the tilt front clip on it. Good sounding 6-71 with a 10-Speed RR:

Re: Jimmy/Detroit Diesel Videos
Here's a GMC 970 with a 6-71 on the back roads and streets of Germany. Not sure what Transmission he has, but it is definitely 2 sticks:

Re: Jimmy/Detroit Diesel Videos
Brockway with an 8V-71.
Notice that he doesn't rush his shifts and it goes nice and smooth with no grinds. |
Re: Jimmy/Detroit Diesel Videos
Thanks again Bill, love them Huskies, especially with Detroit's in em. There's another fellow further up north in NY with a Brockway running along 90, good video also.

Nice. A hiway sound that takes you back to the 2-lane days.

Re: Jimmy/Detroit Diesel Videos
Would a 73 1/2 ton jimmy/blazer with a 4-53 be of interest here? I met a guy who has one he's trying to get running. Bought it for $1500 and the only thing the seller told him was it had a fuel problem. He's not a diesel guy but man, I'd love to own it. It has a ranger split shift in front of a sm465.
