And notice that guy is looking at dem big tars and not the truck . Too bad yours isn't in front.

I'm really enjoying these pictures. I wish I had more on this computer. Makes me want to go through my old prints to scan (actually snap camera pictures) more onto the 'puter.

Here one from maybe 15 years ago. My son is 30 now. I believe he was 15 in that picture. He was helping me move the truck around

Took this one the other day because I like this old military surplus bridge.
A good friend that stopped by the shop a little while back in their red square.
We've both had 4x4s that have seen their share of weekends deep in the mud, but needless to say neither of these will see the mud anytime soon.

Nice trucks! Love that red with black wheels. Reminds me of the '90 Blazer I had, Fire Red, black top and wheels... till I put Hurricanes on

My '72 K2500 is like a woman with many pairs of shoes . Here are the first 5 sets. The 6th set are on it now

Sure is. I have many pairs of mostly boots. Like tires, for different terrain and conditions. I always love when I first put something different on a truck.

I bought the GMC with stock 16.5 x 6.75 wheels and 9.50Rs. Then it got 16.5 x 9.75s with 33/12.50s off another truck. I wanted to keep those, so when I was trying to sell it I swapped the tires onto some 8.75 Hurricanes I had. I put a 4" lift on and installed 9.75 slots with 35/12.50s, but one blew out in short order. So I put the 16 x 7 Accurides with 255/85s on that came off my Suburban I had painted charcoal and put the originals back on the 'Burb. Then, for the first time since I bought the truck in '01 it got it's first set of new shoes, 16 x 8 Wheel Vintiques with 285/75s

My '95 Suburban has had some shoe changes, too. It came with stock wheels and 245/75 mud tires. I put 7" Accurides with 255/85s on. Next tires were 285/75s. Then those wore out and one got a flat so I stole the 8" Wheel Vintiques and 285/75s off the '72. They rubbed really bad, like anytime I cut the wheels hard, so I put 2 of the 285/75s on Accurides back on the front. I just recently finally bought new 285/75s and decided to paint the Accurides white. No more rubbing. I'm happy with that. I really wanted 255/85s again but those cost more than I wanted to spend on the ole gal

I've organized a Cruise-In night for our little town once a month on the third Friday. We've had good turn outs & everybody seems to enjoy the fellowship with each other. We try to represent for the K trucks!

Nice pair, and cool that you got that organized. My friend I'll be set up at Carlisle with later this week had three K/30 dual rear cab & chassis at his place a few weeks ago when I visited. I'm so brokeass all the time it didn't even stir my blood to see those (well, not as much as it should). But they have been on my mind. I'll be making sure if they are all his and seeing if we can work any way for me to get one. I hate being an inconvenience but he's a good friend and I should at least be able to ask. I need one for my retired days, to enjoy building and then use the rest of my life

The Crawlabago is back under the knife. NV4500's aren't as bulletproof as they say. I will give credit, it made it back from AZ to Denver with a wicked growl and no 4th gear.

Input bearing failed and killed the integral release bearing. Shrapnel caused 4th gear to get progressively worse as it wouldn't stay in gear when you let off the throttle.

I'm picking up a fresh rebuild in a day or two.

Glad you made it back. Had my share of problems with NV4500s myself. Nowhere near as tough as the old 4spds.

Rob- that looks like a real fun time. A couple years ago my father in law was visiting California in his 8.1/Allison crew cab gmt 800. The input bearing on the transfer case let go. He drive it all the way from CA to 4 corners area NM having to drain a qt of oil from the case and add it back into the tranny every 100 miles or so. I had to rebuild the whole case when he got it back home but he did make it without a tow.

Considering the one I'm putting in is completely refreshed I'm betting as long as I put the right fluid in it, the trans should last a whole lot longer than a used one with 200,000 miles or better on it.

I agree. NV4500s have their flaws but overall they are a good trans. The old 4 speeds were so durable because most of them never seen more than 200hp in front of them their whole lives.

The fact that the old 4-speeds were not getting buzzed to 80-90mph might have something to the old units "bulletproof" status.

Yeah, my experience has been in the 300hp / 70-80 mph range.

Might as well add this old picture to the thread. This one had a 4spd behind a healthy sbc 400

Picked it up off of a farmer northern Alberta about 800 km North of where I live in March of last year. When I got it home it leaked almost every fluid, leaked engine oil, brake fluid, power steering fluid and coolant. Got all the leaks repaired, mostly just loose fasteners. Far as I can tell it’s mostly original, odometer rolled over just after I bought it, no serious rust issues just surface rust on lower body panels.
The box is fairly beaten and shows obvious years of work on the farm, the floor needs to be replaced, and I’d like to get box repainted back to original ochre.

Plan to keep it as original as practically possible. So far I’ve had front end work done and just had single exhaust removed and dual with headers installed. This was a good upgrade that provided noticeable power gain and bit better fuel economy. Also removed the seat to clean cab as it was really friggin dirty! Installed jute floor insulation while seat was out to reduce some road and engine noise.

Planning to remove motor and rebuild / refresh the fall and winter, possibly add a RV cam while I’m at it thinking it’ll go well with the headers and dual exhaust. Future plan to strip and do a repaint to original white / ochre / white as it rolled out of the factory.

I’ve had a chance to drive it in a lot of conditions, sometimes my daily driver to work. A blast in deep snow, total beast! Just love driving it though, there not many 67-72 where I live so it’s a rarity here for sure.

If anyone has must do, non negotiable upgrades that have proven worth time and resources I’d love to hear them!

Cheers!

Roy
