Re: 1972 3dr Suburban Build Thread
This weekend I will work on the trim. It,s going to snow, again. Not to mention the week end before christmas, but I am going to squeeze it in when I can. Today I ordered a new C-notch from CPP. Man I got to get the back down with the front. I'm thinking the front needs another 1'' to 1'' 1/2 down. That height would be perfect. Thought for the future.

Re: 1972 3dr Suburban Build Thread
Here's some progress pics. Passenger side is finished. The kit only came with 24 clips and that only leaves three on some of the longer pieces. For extra strength I added silicon in between.

Re: 1972 3dr Suburban Build Thread
Man that looks great. You gonna put some screw heads in the rear pieces?

Re: 1972 3dr Suburban Build Thread
Wow what a nice project. I love your color combo yellow is one of my favorites. You have done a very nice job with color and stance. Great wheel choice also. Can't wait to see what you do with the interior after the great job you have done on the exterior.

Re: 1972 3dr Suburban Build Thread
Thanks everyone for the support. I finished up the driver's side trim. I cut off the screw ends and glued them into place too. The cold weather made it more difficult because the double sided tape wouldn't stick.

The fit and finish is excellent. |
Re: 1972 3dr Suburban Build Thread
I have started my custom kick panel speaker boxes in between putting the trim on. I've looked at some people have done on here, including the one Frizzle Fry made, and have a good idea of what I want. I also have a custom center console and rear woofer boxes in the works.

Hubba Hubba! That's not the same suburban my mother took me to Jack in the Box to as a kid. Good job! I showed the old man the pics and he can't believe it.

The C-Notch kit arrived in the mail. Here's a pic: http://warp.scl.utah.edu/19723dr/19723dr-214.jpg Great project for a 4 day weekend. |
Re: 1972 3dr Suburban Build Thread
Saturday, made some progress. I put in the passenger side C-Notch. Here's some pics of the process:
Drilled out the rivets and removed the old bump stop. Then I made a template. http://warp.scl.utah.edu/19723dr/19723dr-217.jpg I then used the template to draw where to cut. I also made templates for the bottom front and back of the C-Notch. So the frame cuts line up with the C-Notch if I want to weld it later. http://warp.scl.utah.edu/19723dr/19723dr-216.jpg Jacked up the rear end to make sure the cut would be centered on where the bump stop will be. Note I shifted it backwards from where they said by 1/4". http://warp.scl.utah.edu/19723dr/19723dr-215.jpg Maked sure the 2 brake and 2 fuel lines were out of the way. http://warp.scl.utah.edu/19723dr/19723dr-218.jpg Made a notch in the spring plate going by the template. http://warp.scl.utah.edu/19723dr/19723dr-219.jpg Went to town with saws-all. http://warp.scl.utah.edu/19723dr/19723dr-220.jpg |
Re: 1972 3dr Suburban Build Thread
Cleaned up the frame and put some paint on it. At a later date I will do the whole back frame.
http://warp.scl.utah.edu/19723dr/19723dr-221.jpg Installed the C-Notch. I put the two bolts in the spring plate first and drilled the back bottom two holes, then the side holes. http://warp.scl.utah.edu/19723dr/19723dr-222.jpg Since I am not building a road-grader I bought some taller bump stops from Autozone. http://warp.scl.utah.edu/19723dr/19723dr-224.jpg http://warp.scl.utah.edu/19723dr/19723dr-225.jpg I put the wheel back on for a test fit. Not too shabby. :smoke: http://warp.scl.utah.edu/19723dr/19723dr-223.jpg Now on to the driver's side... |

They make some much smaller bumpstops (1/2") if you want to be able to go lower in the rear.

Re: 1972 3dr Suburban Build Thread
Rob. The kit came with the 1/2'' bumpstops. I was worried about the rear hitting the wood floor. So I bought taller ones. I can always cut them later. The upper bag bracket need to be modified also. I can't wait to see your body on that clean frame.:chevy:

Re: 1972 3dr Suburban Build Thread
19723DR,... I think you would like the ride better if you install some shock "relocators" from ECE. I didn't realize how much my shocks WEREN'T working without them. They stand the shocks up more vertically,... so they work. I think before, they were just pivoting on the bolts. Oh yeah, love your 'burban!

Thanks to the suspension forum and CCP. |
