Bagged! Oh, I have been thinking about doing that for so long! Going from prerunner to dragging skidplate at a flick of a switch. Dude, you HAVE to post pictures of this as progress is made!:metal::metal::metal:

Just dont go cheap on shocks, I have seen a few prerunners with bags, and you NEED real deal shocks. If you run bags for the springs, be sure to use limit straps, get a triple bypass shock if you can, and let it rip!

This was all completed in less then 8 hours, all with scrap laying around the garage, except for the tubing.[/QUOTE]

Cool...did you gusset behind it too ?? Looks like one good hit, and it would buckle upward.

Cool looking though.

Although, I would build beefy bumpers that would double as air-tanks.

I gussetted it back under the frame for about 4 inches, and along the side of the framerail. I didn't do the upper, my thinking is that it is alot easier to replace the front bumper if it gets slammed harder then it should, then to replace the framerail under the suspension mounting points. I built the bumper on my truck the same way, haven't had any issues yet, and it survived a good front end stuff into a dune at about 40 that stopped the truck.

Re: something different 66 long travel truck

I think this post has convinced me to go the other way with my 63 i was going to cut up the frame and make the truck lay frame, but seeing this makes me think it will look tuff sitt'n up nice and high! dino how are you going to lift the back, is there someone out there that makes lift springs for the back in this year? or will 68-72 springs work also?

Dinos63 03-31-2008 09:21 AM

Re: something different 66 long travel truck

I think i am going to bag the rear, the back is no problem, there are many ways .One is there are lift springs,or a spacer for the spring, the old school way was to flip the axle on the bottom of the trailing arm that was about 4" which i dont need much lift on the rear,

1974k5blazer 03-31-2008 10:52 PM

Re: something different 66 long travel truck

yeah when i was putting my 63 together for the first time i did that and thought to my self dang!!! it sits high in the rear, then i realized what i did.......but hey i was 14 i didn't know any better!

1974k5blazer 03-31-2008 10:53 PM

Re: something different 66 long travel truck

That thing looks cool as heck all lifted. I'm not a huge lifted fan, but dang... Howcome you got rid of the flatbed, was kinda quirky and unique looking for bein custom.
