I got the whole frame cleaned down and primed and painted the rear half yesterday. Here are a few pics. Hope to get the rest done throughout the week so I can get the frontend back together next weekend.
|
Paint is good...means assembly not far.
Nice looking job on it. I'm looking forward to see what she looks like all back together. |
shouldnt be a huge deal to bag the rear i wouldnt think. bridge your notch right above the axle, install bag mounts and bags. with ladder bars you could potentially run into clearance problems when aired down depending on your ladder bars.
|
The way I see it I can slam the rear and run bags on the front and I would be OK. I did this on a 83 LWB with hydros on the front and had no probs. I have to finish up a little paint work then get to work assmebling the front end. Send the rearend out this week to be cut down and fitted with axles.

is the truck a shortbox or a longbox?

SWB 92 stepside. First pic in thread

Took the rearend to be pulled apart. Checked the spline on the side gears so I could order axles. Called up MOSER and got a set of 30 splines. I know the more splines the better but I wanted to retain the POSI that I got with the rearend. I could have changed the side gears but finding a set is pretty hard to do and from what I hear pricey!! Anyhow each axle should only end up being around 22" in length which gives less area to break. I am going with BIG FORD housing ends and using weld on brake kit to finish. Should be able to get the rearend back in the truck in 2 weeks or so.

Cool progress PD.
Just a thought.... why not consider AirRides Shockwave 9000? They should be small enough to fit where coilovers were intended (5" dia) & they can accommodate 1200lbs load capacity @ 100psi or 2400lbs combined. IMO there's nothing wrong w/static, but if you wanted air you could prob set it up now to make it easier to switch later. Later, Scot. |
Yeah thats not a bad idea. They are kinda pricey though. I guess by the time I welded new brackets in the rear and so forth it would be worth it. Also I could get a little cash for the QA1 coilovers that I have.

Here are a few progress pics from the long weekend. Finished priming and painting the rest of the frame. Got the upper and lower arms on the front. Also got the Belltech 3" coils in the front as well as the DJM 2" spindles. And dont forget the DOESTECH shock up front. Hope to make little more progress through out the week. I feel that alot of the hard work is done, so everything else should be straight forward from here. Time to start cutting on the bed. I want to get this thing on the road when the wheels are here in roughly 6-7 weeks from this post.

Got the narrowed rearend back yesterday. Looks pretty sweet. I will get a few pics and post asap. Plan to get it painted this week and under the truck.

A few more pics. Notice on the block I spent a few extra hours smoothing the factory casting marks off. While this isnt so apparent now, when the block is painted in should make it look great. IMO
