Re: People who try to buy your truck
Had a guy stop by yesterday and asked if I wanted to sell that old Pontiac sitting in the driveway? My step-father passed away last April and I inherited it from him. Told the guy that I really hadn't given it much thought. He wanted to "check it out", so I said sure, why not. Afterwards he asked me again "how much I wanted for it?" I told him that if he wanted to buy it, how much was he offering? He told me he had a $1,000. I told him if he wanted it, he should go home and get 3-4 more thousand and we'd talk. He walked away looking at me like I was crazy.

Re: People who try to buy your truck
I had a 55 Chevy 2 door post. When I got it it was a shell...no sheet metal (doors, trunk, doghouse, trunk lid...and so on) No interior. No wiring. Just body and frame. I put 22,000.00 into it in 3 years. I had it all done...and was always asked if it was for sale. I had one guy that found out where I lived and at least once a month for 3 years came and bugged me about selling it. He came one day and asked how much I put into it. After I told him...him what I had in it...and he said he would return in the morning with the money. I figured he was full of it. Well He was there and i took the money...I needed it...but didnt really want to take it.

Re: People who try to buy your truck
I took my father in law to Best Buy today to pick up his new fridge, and a guy sitting beside us at a red light blows the horn and my father rolled down the passenger side window and the guy asked if I wanted to sell my '69 C/10. I said "No thanks", and that was it. My father has heard me talk about ppl trying to buy my old trucks, but he is not a car guy, and was amazed that someone would actually flag you down in traffic and ask to sell your vehicle. I told it happened all the time. I also told him if I have to 'splain it, he wouldn't understand!

Re: People who try to buy your truck
Never had anyone ask me yet. I'm actually thinking about selling it so hopefully someone will walk by and make me an offer. :D
|
Re: People who try to buy your truck
Everything I own is for sale adn I have bought several the same way. It never hurts to ask, but I never get rude (defeats the purpose). I have been given vehicles and bought some dirt cheap. I have sold a few too cheap, so be sure your off the cuff $$$ amount is enough, just in case!!

Re: People who try to buy your truck
If anybody asked me what I want for my 68, I would tell them $62000.
She´s my baby and nobodies gettin her. :metal: |
Re: People who try to buy your truck
I could have sold my '72 for a bit of a profit if I didn't count the time I have in building it(Which I don't)............I actually seen the cash infront of my eyes but turned it down. Some days I think maybe I shoulda took it, but I can't buy a new truck that will work as good as that old one does for what I do, so I can't really put a price on it. I plan on rebuilding it a few more times and I am going to keep it as long as possible. Things like a 4spd, manual t-case and manual hubs so you can use 4 Lo in 2wd for a super low reverse speed for backing farm equipment just isn't possible with any new truck so I almost have to keep it around reguardless of what someone offers me.
Could have sold my '69 GMC 1-ton t-tag for over double what I have in it numerous times, again, I can't replace it with the same setup unless I build it or spec it out new, so it stays. |

If somebody was willing to give me that much for it, it´s either got something in it I don´t know about or he´s Jay Leno. Nope, I put too much time, work and patience into it just to get rid of it. |
Re: People who try to buy your truck
Some people say everything's got a price but not my '68 short step. My grandfather bought the truck brand new in the fall of '67 so it's only been in my family. He died of cancer the year before I was born and that's why my truck means so much to me, even though it is sitting right now because someone ran into it.

Re: People who try to buy your truck
interesting thread!
TTT I love it when the "buyer" gets angry after you tell them it's not for sale. Then they allways ask why not (for sale)! Because I don't wanna sell it!! Have a good one, Keith |
Re: People who try to buy your truck
I always tell them it will take a large stack of $100 dollar bills. They laugh & I drive away happy to be in MY truck.

Re: People who try to buy your truck
I have a 70 that I would sell. But I won;t sell it to the one guy who has offered to buy it. He has been thru probably 20 vehicles in the 3 years I've known him. Guess I'm crazy, but I've owned it for 10 years and put a lot of sweat into it. I'm not selling it to anyone who will tear it up, at least not where I'll see it.

Re: People who try to buy your truck
Great, I have to get used to this?!?!? I've had a couple friends kid me about selling, cheap. I have a price, so thanks for the comebacks!

Re: People who try to buy your truck
Neat reads, even for an old thread. My 68 isn't running around yet, so haven't had anyone ask. The blazer has been all over the place, multiple states, but never had a bite. Probably cause it's just an offroad truck. Funny thing though, everybody.... I mean EVERYBODY wants to guess what I have in it and then ask. I'm not telling, makes me look stupid lol. I've seen the look before and it's normally accompanied by "you could have bought a new truck for that"

Re: People who try to buy your truck
Good read. Haven't seen this thread before. I had to smile at the guys saying they wanted $30k as their crazy high price that nobody would take. $30k doesn't even touch the parts alone in my blazer, much less the hours spent researching, hours in the shop, and time away from my family I spent building it.
I had some guy pull up to me at a gas station and ask how much I wanted for my blazer shortly after i got it "done". I told him $50k....he scoffed and drove away. Thinking more about it later, It would take more than $50k to get it out of my hands. I don't figure I'll ever sell it. I always love riding around in my brother's Buick Grand National. It's like clockwork that you'll get an "brother" yelling at you in traffic or from the sidewalk about how he wants to buy the GN...just name your price. Yeah, ok buddy. |
Re: People who try to buy your truck
My first car was an 85 Monte Carlo SS (still own it) that I bought from my Aunt. My uncle forced her to buy it in 1989 and sold it to me when I was 14. It was painful to look at it for a year and a half.
I am 30 now, so when I was 16 driving it around in 2001 I would get hassled nonstop from older guys trying to buy it. This was before a whole lot of ebay and craigslisting (at least for me) so I wasn't too keen on the value of it but I only payed $2,500 for it and knew I wouldn't be able to get it back for that. Glad I didn't cave. I still get hounded now, though it's slightly louder with a 450hp 383 I built for it when I was 17. http://i549.photobucket.com/albums/i...158805/pic.jpg |
