Thanks for the info, i have a RCI and made it to sit on top of the frame and it has a piece under for suport too so hopefully its all good but we'll find out.

By the way good job on the mods can't wait to see more pics!

You're going to tweak your floor anyway so you could still use that blazer tank. Instead of pulling it up to the bottom of the frame rail, try pulling it up to the bottom of the top frame rail. It's worth 4".

Made some more progress to the cheapskate mobile! Got the floor done in the bed and a mustang gas tank mounted. Still need to figure out the sending unit issue and a filler neck. The tank fits nicely between my widened frame rails.
I will stain the boards and brush the aluminum strips when i disassemble for painting.

Do you have any "in progress" shot of how you did the floor? That's pretty much exactly how I want to do mine, but hopefully I can get away without the raised bridge cover. Where did you get the metal strips? I assuming you did the work on the wood yourself.

Also, did you leave the factory floor in place?

One more thing... how much did you raise the floor, and how far above the floor does the notch actually go with the cover off?

have you considered putting a fuel door behind the tailgate in the sheet metal panel that fills the gap created by the raised floor? Thats what I had in mind, along with an access panel to get to my battery.

Sorry but i don't have any "in progress" pics of the bed but will be happy to post some of the wood removed for you if your not it a big hurry.

The strips are pieces of 1" wide 1/4 " thick aluminum i had cut.

Also, did you leave the factory floor in place?

I removed the factory floor and welded 1"x1" box around the perimeter of the bed.
One more thing... how much did you raise the floor, and how far above the floor does the notch actually go with the cover off?

I think i raised the floor about 7" The cover is 1" above the actual notch.

Thats my first choice along as there is enough room a bend the filler tube as it will be a very tight bend.

so are the planks counter sunk on the edges so the aluminum strips just drop in? That's a pretty slick alternative to the kits they make. And any pics of the frame work would be nice, but I get the general idea. :cool:

Well its been awhile since i have had anything worth posting. Finally got my paint done!! This was the first time i have painted anything so it was quite a eye opener for me. I can see now why professional paint and body work costs so much. I Still need to get the rims blasted so i can paint them and the door panels.
They will be the same color as the roof and dash. Hopefully they will be done this week and i can start reassembly!

The z was not as hard as i had myself thinking it would be. Measured and leveled a million times before i cut! The rear was done like that for two reasons. #1 to be able to build my own notch(cheaper than buying one!!) #2 to give me room to put the gas tank.

Thanks! Its my OCD that helps me keep it clean:lol: I always take the pictures after i clean up for the day so believe me it gets plenty messy!

Thanks! Now that i finally got it painted i am really motivated to get this thing done! I missed my goal to have it done before the Carlisle all truck nationals but i will make it next year!

Thanks. I am not a very good photographer so looks much more vivid and flashy in person. The gun I used was a cheap hvlp from TCP global with a 1.8 tip to spray the clear/flake mix. The flake is Lil daddy roths agent orange in the standard
size .015.
