Re: Torchered
Finally sprayed the base and clear on the door jams. Turned out really good for a first timer and running out of clear on the driver side second coat. Some how a little dust got into the clear. Good thing its a shop truck. Ha Ha Ha.
Very excited for the next three weeks, since I have to spray the base twice and put 3 clear coats down it will take about 3 weeks to refinish the front of the frame, fire wall ( and no its not going to be smoothed, just cleaned and painted), paint and install the drop member. Ill post updated pics soon. |
Re: Torchered
I'll be posting pictures later. Nick's been spending some time cleaning up the fire wall and stripping the rubber undercoating off the frame. The frame looked like Poo when he prayed it with the undercoating. I'll be coating it in satin black and the fire wall too.
Ive been painting the PorterBuilt from=nt cross member parts. And finishing the inside of the doors, still not perfect but only one clear coat run and the rest is smooth. Good job considering it has 2 base coats and 3 clear coats. Color is looking good, even my Dad liked the color choice. He doesn't care too much for Blues. Next week this thins should be back on all fours. Just might have a shot getting it to Puyallup. |
Re: Torchered
Anyone ever buy a part to remedy a problem and have it create more problems. Well the Porterbuilt front Drop member has done just that. I have never read on there site or was I told when talking to them that you need a tall tranny tunnel or that a double drivline with a carrier bearring may need to be used. Or that any other trailling arm crossmember will need to modified to fit this carrier bearring. Perhaps these items should be noted on there website under the item.
Any way I luckily have a tall tranny tunnel and since im not planning on dropping the truck to the ground, modifying the CPP trailing arm crossmember loop to clear the driveline probably wont need to be done. As Nathan from Porterbuilt said you just have to see how it goes and solve any issues as they arrise. Oh Id still buy the Crossmember, I would have rather liked to know that I had to chop the floor or cut a new crossmember before I had already finished them. Its only a shop truck you know. Wink wink. |

Another side shot of the truck estimated ride height in front. The rear bags are deflated. A picture of the motor, for some reason Nick didn't paint it the first go around. I stripped the motor down and Nick prepped and painted the block, going to paint the tranny tomorrow and then stick it back in the truck tomorrow afternoon. I have to do a class with Nick about pulling the dizzy and intake manifold. Fun stuff.

Valve covers breathers air filter top Master cylinder steering wheel No flames on the side, too bad |
Re: Torchered
Its funny how you think it wont take so long to do something. Looks like the motor will go in Thursday. When do I install the new wiring harness? After all the metal is hung??

Things never go as fast as you think they should. Finally installed the motor, tranny crossmember. Mocked up the front bags with a 1.5 square tubing spacer. I dont want this thing on the ground just low with a firm ride. The ART setup had 40lbs of air preassure at my desired ride height. Im sure there are other ways to fix that but Porterbuilts front end is a piece I'm proud to display on my truck. Also moched up the steering column. Looks like that will fit. Motor and tranny look really nice with a little paint.

Nice progress! Looking good!!!

Re: Torchered
One Nova forum owner said it was a right of passage working on your Nova when you had to dent a nice header to clear your steering box. Well I didnt have to that but I did have to trim a little off the hat mount that sits ontop of the frame to clear my headers. Besides this very little happened over the weekend. My wife and I foster dogs and we took in two puppies over the weekend. This took a big chunk out of my plan to get something done.

Re: Torchered
Friday I painted several little parts satin black. Looks like Monday the dash, front pillers and kick panels will get treated to a little satin black as well. I'm currently in a toss up on the brake booster. i have a chrome and satin black booster both are 9"s, just can't decide. I'll have to get on it abopiut ordering the flame MC so I can wrap it up.

Re: Torchered
SLOW, SLOW SLOW, Had to take all the interior out and fix the previous owners sketchy rattle can paint job. Should have it all stripped this week and ready to paint. Going to stick with satin black. I think it looks more Hot Roddy

Re: Torchered
very nice project! good thinking on the tent paint booth! did you just use three sides or have the fourth side closed too? if so did you use any air flow cause would it not pretty stagnant?

Re: Torchered
Well its been awhile. Work has been really busy, and now we hjave two new accounts so the chance of me getting to this project are slim. Considering this I went out on a search for a local body shop. I found one called Carolina Kustoms in Portland Oregon. The price may be too right so I figured before I send them my Baby(Nova) I would test there skills with this C10. Here is a list of things that will be changed:
Porterbuilt rear drop member two piece drive shaft with a CPP crossmember custom front inner fenders gas tank to rear stereo hole filled and smoothed with DVD player temp controls filled and a Vintage defrost kit installed raised bed floor rear fenders widthened gas tank filler neck in the side of the bed with a flip out door ( just like every car) Oh by the weay this is just a shop truck, LMAO! |
Re: Torchered
I can't remember, but wasn't this going to be a driver while the nova is getting work done? I'm not complaining or anything, but sounds like this is that project that you didn't mention in the beginning.. ;) Nice work, the truck looks good!

Re: Torchered
Update:
Last week I recieved the rear drop member from Porter Built. The shop was waiting on that to get started. This week I have been looking for motors. Since my Nova has a 450HP Sb I thought something different would be nice. Right now Im talking to a shop about building a Hi Pro 283. A coworker said he loved how quickly the motor would spin up. Its worth a shot. Let you know how it goes! |

Re: Torchered
Wmi machine in Spokane finished the motor. 362hp 283, they were very impressed with how quickly it wound up. Should be a cool hot rodder motor. Nathan at Porterbuilt will be sending me the updated inner frame mount and his new three piece rear cab panel kit. His rear drop member is installed and the rear axle has been rebuilt with posi and 373 gears. The truck should have the cab sheet metal fitted by end on May.

Re: Torchered
It's funny, looking back at this project and reading the thread just how ill prepared I was. Work has gone nuts. Really glad the truck was sent out to be finished. The rear axle is hung, Porter built heater box filler plates are installed. I think the PB hood hinges are next and then the bed? I'll post some pics when I can.
