cab vin is on the driver door jamb and the frame vin is located on the horizontal part, inside the driver side tire... right beside the motor mount area...
Get some more pics of the frame but I can tell that it's not a 67-68 for sure....and pretty sure it's not 69-72 either... I say buy the willy's wagon and make a beast out of it... |

Well I went back and took pictures today but I was not able to talk to the owner. The vin on the cab is something like CS148S158475. I also found a cut out vin laying inside the truck that you can read in the pictures. Can someone help me understand the vins? I think you guys are right about it being a 73-87 frame also but you can decide frome the pics. The core support has tall mounts under it and I also found a custom body mount looking thing in the cab. The one measurement I took was almost 5 foot from the spring hanger thing to the back of the frame and this can be seen in the pics. I also saw I was wrong and there is a hole in the floor next to the shifter and i think the hump is bolt on because it has hinges on the firewall side. Sorry for so many pics but i promise they are all pretty necessary.

sorry but it's a 2WD cab, newer frame than 67-72...
run away from that truck.... The parts don't look bad cab, axles and such but the way they tried to mount everything is very rigged...and unsafe You would be better to buy the cab and find another donor... Nice looking yard though with lots of cool toys. Go for the newer short bed or the willy's. or make a 2WD... I'd like to have that grille trim though... |

Well that stinks that it is not a 67-72 frame. I guess this still could be done with enough time but making good custom body mounts and stuff would be to much for me I think. I am still trying to get an exact price on stuff and if it is cheap enough I might still get it for the parts. I did find a couple other things to think about today though. 68swb 2 wheel drive and a 71 swb 2 wheel drive. I found the 68 about 15 miles from my house and stopped and talked to the guy about it. He said it was his first truck and he has been thinking about selling but his asking price is more than what I see them selling for around here. Thanks. I think I am over trying to build that truck now. I am just considering parts from that place and I am going to try to find a good deal on another truck.

I've seen a couple of the trucks swapped over to the later 4x chassis and they are usually more headaches than a guy wants to deal with. After going back and taking a serious look at the photos I'd say that that rig would be one to stay away from.

Well I have decided that the blue 4x4 is not the truck for me. It would be way to much work to adapt the newer model frame. I have been quite busy lately and have not talked to the guy about buying parts from him or anything. I figured the first step for me would be to find a nicer truck and then go back to him for parts that I need. I doubt any of those trucks are going anywhere soon. I see that a lot of you think the 68 would be a good truck for me to start with and I am still considering that truck even though my dad ruled out that option by saying it was way overpriced. My plan is to look around a little more and if a screaming deal doesn't pop up then I will go back and talk to the owner of the 68. First I have a couple more options to explore. I will try to get more pics of the 68 for you guys in the mean time and try to talk the guy down to the right price. Thanks for the link davidh that looks like a great deal.

Me having all the parts to a complete 1972 GTO when I was 17...it took me a year. There was little things I kept replacing.

if you could get that 68 for under 3000 you would be stealing and that 71 looks shifty, looks like it's pretty much beat

That 68 looks like a great truck to restore. There's $500-$600 worth of trim on it if it's in good shape.

The 68 does have some good trim but the owner put screws through most of it to hold it on. It doesn't run and the guy said that he was gone for a year and someone stole the carb off it and it has been sitting there ever since (which is more than 5 years). So he said the motor would need to be rebuilt or replaced. The rockers are also pretty rusty but I havn't really looked at any other rust prone areas. I will go back later this week to check it out better.
