Re: Lets see your gauge panel!
My current cluster; stainless sheet with the tach, Wideband, and Oil Pressure gauge. All other functions are run off the scangauge (which is just velcro'd in place, hence crooked)
http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...ps447e5da7.png http://i1329.photobucket.com/albums/...psdae02a51.png I'll be adding 2 more guages and redoing the stainless with carbon. |

Re: Lets see your gauge panel!
Grandpa54 what tach did you use? Thats cool being 6000 RPM!

Re: Lets see your gauge panel!
Red line out of tn rebuilt the gauges for me and he supplied it. He will make your speedo 120 mph if you want it, mark

Re: Lets see your gauge panel!
Hey Grandpa54, what brand and type of paint did you use on the silver trim bezel? Yours is flatter and closer to the original sheen than mine is. The whole thing looks beautiful, by the way.
I have blasted and repainted mine twice now, using two different types of rattle can aluminum colored enamel, and I'm still not 100% happy with it. I don't mind the extra gloss on mine, but it takes 100 years to cure and seems pretty easy to discolor when handling it. |

SORRY I DONT HAVE THAT INFO JOHN AT RED LINE DID THE RESTORATION

Re: Lets see your gauge panel!
Oh, I see. Thanks anyway. Looks like he does nice work.
I decided to do mine myself. Apparently so I could continually obsess about all the minute details other people are never going to notice in the first place. Ha! |
Re: Lets see your gauge panel!
Aluminum/silver paint needs a clear coat so that it does not smudge when touched and handled.

Re: Lets see your gauge panel!
Thanks CaptainFab, I hadn't thought about that. I don't wanna hijack this thread, but do you have any idea if clear acrylic enamel can be sprayed over the (presumably) oil enamel I painted it with? The aluminum color was Krylon Rust Tough. The local oreillys didn't have any clear that wasn't acrylic. I'm gonna try a test piece first, but was curious if you or anyone else had any input. I have blasted and painted this damn bezel twice now, and I really don't wanna botch it again.

Re: Lets see your gauge panel!
Yeah man, your powder coated bezel looks great.
If I had realized what a pain in the rear the "easy" route was going to be, I would have just got some real 2 part urethane and shot it like all my other parts, or had my buddy powder coat it. Unfortunately I let logic get in my way again. "It's just a trim bezel, surely a shot of rattle can aluminum should do the trick." It looks really nice in my humble opinion, but now I've already got a spot that needs a touch up, and guess I may as well clear it while I'm at it. |
Re: Lets see your gauge panel!
For future reference, I tested 3 rattle can clears tonight over test pieces previously coated in the same Krylon aluminum color I used on my bezel, and none of them are acceptable. Duplicolor acrylic enamel clear, Rustoleum crystal clear enamel, and Krylon crystal clear all three turn the metallic silver to dull, splotchy gunmetal gray that looks terrible. Maybe this will help somebody in the future.
I'll stop cluttering up this thread with extraneous info and questions now. Thanks for putting up with me fellas. |

I ended up going the Dakota Digital route...full electronic with programmable settings for tach, speedo and fuel sender ohms...
Fit right in and works great...turned out to be about $300 dollars cheaper than purchasing all the gauges seperately and there are ton of cool expansion options. |
