went out to pick-n-pull today and found the deal of my life, found a clean tailgate band, the narrow one that mounts inside the groove on the tailgate, got it for 5 bucks. time to clean it up and mount it

Im in the truck about 3,500 roughly, it currently has close to 8,000 miles on it now and runs perfect, for doing the work myself i feel great about that because i built the engine myself and saved money over sending it to a shop to get built. my whole thing is that you can achieve anything you want in life there is no such thing as the impossible there is always a way and i just never give up, i get frustrated at times but you have to just calm down and keep going at it and everything will land up good. the truck is my pride and joy people ask me who built it and how much did i buy it for and i tell them buy haha built it myself and the first response i get is you must be rich or something and hell no not at all its all saving up for the build, i also have a 54 cadillac if any of you want to see it let me know i will send you a link for the pictures.

Yea!!! Post that link I want to see that 54 Caddy!!!!!!!! :metal: I wish you lived closer I would hire you to work on my truck. Great work keep it up!

Brandon, just talked to my neighbor... he said its a piece of cake. pull the steering wheel, horn plate, and use that tool to push down on the spring and release the clip(??) and you'll see the screw that holds the ign. tumbler. he said the hardest part is getting the tool:lol: good luck bro

Re: 1979 Chevy build

that wasnt the problm i think the ignition switch or the rod itself is messed up but for now i have a toggle switch wired to my starter just a temporary fix

I gaurentee 100 to 1 its a broken rack or selector gear in your column.http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cc/full.aspx?page=138

Re: 1979 Chevy build

hahaha, okay when i turn the key on the collum to the run position all the power comes on but when i put it in the start position it doesnt crank or nothing, so what i did was wire up a on off toggle to the battery + and to the s terminal on the starter and i use this to start it, its always been hard to start it i would have to move the collum down to the lowest tilt to start it then bring it back up but not it doesnt crank from the ignition. i believe it is the rod in the collum.. but for now it runs

JohnC 01-14-2010 06:11 PM

Re: 1979 Chevy build

Yeah it's a little keyway thing that keeps the ignition in line with the tilt column. It is made out of like a potmetal and is very common to break. You can buy them at the auto parts store in the Help section.

Re: 1979 Chevy build

didnt run for long left me stranded again last nite i would turn the key and get no power but my toggle still worked and all lights, so i droped the collum and took off the ignition switch thinking that was it so i had a buddy go get me one and when i took it off the rod came out it is bent, now i need to find a way to get it back in and what do i need. for now i have the new iginition switch in but not mounted i use the rod to push and pull on the slot for it as if it where all connected in the collum so it still runs just want to fix it rite

Nice looking band. That will look good on your truck.

Re: 1979 Chevy build

thanks man cant wait to get it on there i only paid 8.00 bucks for the band at Pick-N-Pull good steal if you ask me..

JohnC 01-22-2010 10:23 PM

Re: 1979 Chevy build

That's a definite steal. You don't find bands in that good of shape very often at the pick and pull.

Re: 1979 Chevy build

Re: 1979 Chevy build

My vote would be for no bumper guards. It looks so much cleaner without them.
