Re: 72 Suburban Started
Yesterday I was able to get the old 350 transmission to the shop for rebuild and a new housing, I also pulled the heads and intake off of the engine and it looks good so I will only need to install new lifters and push rods and I already have a RPM intake and 650 chm carb and valve covers and Bcubed gave me a set of headers . Later that night I got most of the front frame painted. I hope to have my parts in this week from LMC and Brothers.

Re: 72 Suburban Started
Today I sent my heads to the shop for rebuild and went to the parts house to get all of the engine parts. Good news I was able to order everything on the company accout and pay cash... We buy about 50,000 each month in parts and got a BIG DISCOUNT.

Re: 72 Suburban Started
Having trouble finding the outer rocker panel for the passenger side it’s not the same as the truck due to the 3rd door. I don’t even know if anyone makes it or if I need to modify the truck panel to fit...?

Re: 72 Suburban Started
Made it home to find boxes of parts, all of the front suspension came in the only thing missing was the all bags, Ricky at Thorbros said they were being shipped today. I was able to put the final coat of paint on the front frame today worked on the fire wall, UCA and rehung the door and checked the alignment of the rocker panels and floor pan. 1st try it was a good fit all of the measurement paid off. I took a lot of photos I will post this weekend.

Re: 72 Suburban Started
Spent most of Saturday and Sunday working on the Suburban. When I got there Bud had already cleaned and painted the frame and started on the firewall. He used a hammertone paint and I wasn't sure how it would look on the frame but it looks very good.

Front suspension rebuild kit. A bunch of engine parts had been gathered together http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...uburban015.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...urban006-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...uburban008.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...uburban009.jpg The engine itself, the intake and heads were torn down and a friend went over the heads and put in new seals and checked them out. The cylinder walls were in good shape and cleaned up and then the heads reinstalled with new head gaskets. A new oil pan has been ordered and the engine will get a coat of Chevy orange before going back in. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...uburban007.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...uburban024.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...urban025-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...uburban045.jpg |
Re: 72 Suburban Started
Worked on the suspension, drilled out and mounted the upper bag plates. Finished taking the control arms apart, painted them and started reassembling them with all new parts.
This was easily the worst part, plenty of persuasion from a torch and large pipe wrenches were needed. In the end we almost gave up with the reassembly, the new parts were not fitting together very well. We ended up having the clean the threads of the new caps with a file, and then heat up the control arms and put the caps in ice water, the combination of heat and cold and they finally went in pretty simply. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...uburban020.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...urban010-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...uburban021.jpg Took a jack and cycled the suspension .. the bags aren't here yet and already decided we aren't using the cups but will be cupping the arms. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...uburban032.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...urban041-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...uburban034.jpg Took a short video With that, and wanting to see it down already, we removed the rear springs to get the back down more. The back is resting on the axle, the front is not all the way down, hopefully this would be about ride height once it is all set up. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...uburban047.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...uburban052.jpg |
