Re: My 66 GMC LWB
I spent the day putting on some of the Christmas goodies that I got :metal:
First I installed the head light relay kit that I got from LMC. I figured that this would be the easiest way, but boy was I wrong... I had no problem installing the kit, but when I fired up the light switch, it was another story... The outside lights worked fine, but the inner two lights had a slight glow to them. When I hit the high beams, they all worked fine. First, I thought that I had a bad ground, so I installed a ground wire from each headlight bucket to the battery. That helped a little, but the inner two light still had a glow to them with the low beams on. I pulled the grill out again to look at the wiring again and make sure that I didn't have and loose connections. As I was looking everything over, I compared the original harness to the new one and noticed that the outer headlight connectors on the new harness had the green and black wires in opposite locations. I looked into the headlamp (sealed halogen) and noticed that this high beam wire (green) was connecting to the common terminal on the back of the headlight... So I was running the power through the common ground for the two filaments instead of the high beam filament... I swapped the wires in the connectors and they are now working properly... Of coarse, now one of my high beam lamps (4001) burnt out in the process... So, to sum it up, if I had known that this harness from LMC was made in Taiwan, I would have just got some new headlight wire connectors, wire, relays and just wired it myself... I didn't want to return it thinking that it should work fine and didn't want to disappoint the wifey... Oh well, live and learn :flag: http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...C/IMG_1364.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...C/IMG_1366.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...C/IMG_1367.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...C/IMG_1374.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...C/IMG_1375.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...C/IMG_1377.jpg Tony |
Re: My 66 GMC LWB

Re: My 66 GMC LWB
Very nice. Like how you work.:smoke: I would be scared to work on a truck that nice. I'll be looking for another cross member.

Re: My 66 GMC LWB
Thanks daverod, I would love to do a frame of resto, but the funds don't permit it and I'm already knee deep in my tribute truck for my belated son. I just don't have the room or funds :whine:
The truck is pretty solid, but I did find some small rust holes in the lower part of both front fenders and in the floor board at the kick panels... I was pretty disappointed when I found them, but they are fixable. Just need more time and money.... ;) Tony |
Re: My 66 GMC LWB
I forgot to mention that I finally got the truck registered with my vintage 1966 plate :metal:
It's an original 1966 plate that was last registered in 1968  http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...C/IMG_1405.jpg Tony |
Re: My 66 GMC LWB
Very cool.:metal: I got a thing for plates.:uhmk: Thinking of doing my firewall and kick panels next.

Re: My 66 GMC LWB
Thanks Dave :metal:
Ya, I like the vintage plates too. They sell them at a local swap meet for some pretty good coin, but I got lucky and found mine online for $15 shipped ;) Tony |
Re: My 66 GMC LWB
I was playing around with photoshop since it's raining.
This is my Micro-machines version of my truck ;) http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...0_1short-1.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2..._1-short-1.jpg Here is a chopped top version :metal: http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...110_1-Chop.jpg Tony |
Re: My 66 GMC LWB
Now all u have to do is build it. I'm thinking you'll be the first. Maybe not? Oh ya and make it lay frame. I'm really surprised I hav'nt seen any of those around.

Re: My 66 GMC LWB
Ya, that would be cool to build one like that. If I had the time and money, it would be done :metal:
Gonna have to go back to play'n the LOTO I guess :ito: Tony |
Re: My 66 GMC LWB
Hey Tony,
Thanks for the score on the grill.:metal: Stopped by the platers and they gave me a price on fixing and replating it. Now I just need the extra dough before I drop it off... looking forward to the tax return,,,, filing next Monday... OH! And it was a pleasure meeting you. I think all the 60-66 guys in central AZ should start a club if there isn't one already. :ito: :gmc2: |

I totally agree about a local AZ 60-66 club. We have got plenty of these trucks here :metal: I'll have to look you up the next time I'm the far East side :ito: Tony Posted via Mobile Device |

Now all I need to do is find lettering... And hey, it's really not all that far... I was home by dark..... and it snowed on us going home! That was crazy! :mm: |
Re: My 66 GMC LWB
I got a good deal on some leather 05 Silverado seats for my truck :metal:
Exact color that I was looking for ;) I got the drivers side bolted in, but still need to finish the other two. Hopefully this Saturday :uhmk: Hoping to drive it to the Glendale Community College swap meet this Sunday and sell some of my junk I don't need anymore... http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...C/IMG_1424.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...C/IMG_1422.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...C/IMG_1421.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...C/IMG_1418.jpg Tony |
Re: My 66 GMC LWB
Damn, those look awesome! I am looking to do something similar, can't wait,
|
Re: My 66 GMC LWB
Thanks ;)
I've been wanting some for awhile now and just happen to be the first to call on them. They were usually sold by the time I called... They are very comfortable, I just wish they were a little thinner on the back portion. With the seats hitting the back of the cab, I feel like I need them to go back one or two more clicks on the adjusters... Still not bad to drive, just wouldn't want to drive for hours... Tony |
Re: My 66 GMC LWB
I know exactly what you mean about needing just a little more room behind the seat.
I am very seriously contemplating stretching my cab a foot and using a short bed on my longbed frame. Kind of an extended cab. I get out of my 95 suburban and slip into the 66 and it just feels pinched. |
Re: My 66 GMC LWB
Your seats look great! I wish mine were in tan, but grey is all I've been able to find. Doing a frame off resto is really nice, but expensive and all-consuming. Your truck is WAY better off now than mine ever was. From what I can see, drive it and enjoy it! Nice work!

Re: My 66 GMC LWB
Well, I installed my third brake light when I got home this afternoon. It was pretty easy and took about an hour to install. I think the hardest part was getting under the dash to tie in the wire to the brake light... :uhmk:
I was smart enough to pull a nylon string in when I replaced my dome light and wire harness, it made it so simple to pull the wire down to the door jam :metal: http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...C/IMG_1439.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...C/IMG_1437.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...C/IMG_1440.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...C/IMG_1443.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...C/IMG_1446.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...C/IMG_1451.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...C/IMG_1461.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...C/IMG_1463.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...C/IMG_1455.jpg Tony |
Re: My 66 GMC LWB
And... I started working on my spare instrument cluster. I got some cool little LED lights for the turn signals, high beams and alternator. :metal:
I'll post more details soon :uhmk: http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...C/IMG_1436.jpg Tony |

The third brake light is slick. I like the dash panel too. The '60-'66 panels really lend themselves to customizing (at least they're easier than the '67-'72 clusters).
