need some advice from the wise,
i bought that disc brake conversion kit and i got the 5 lug 4.75 rotor pattern. my thought was, more options for rims. the rear i was going to keep stock, drums, but they are 6 lugs. here are my options i have deduced. 1. buy (2) 5 lug rims for the front and (2) 6 lug rims for the rear 2. convert the rear to disc and buy a new prop. valve 3. any other ideas???????? suggestions?? UPDATE FOR THE DAY Attachment 853914 Attachment 853915 Attachment 853916 Attachment 853917 Attachment 853918 have taken off the cross member and started polishing the frame rails... again:gmc2: |

This is why i wanted to have a redo on the crossmember, my blast man didn't do the greatest of jobs. but for 200 bucks i cant complain too much. In his defense when it was all assembled most of this would have been very difficult to see.

Re: Operation : In to Deep!
i'm with 67 cheby-change the diff now as it gives lots more options for rims and won't drive you nuts in the future if you have a flattie.
you are doing everything else properly so why scrimp on the diff? great progress by the way cheers mark |
Re: Operation : In to Deep!

Re: Operation : In to Deep!
If it's not too late, I say wait on the frame painting until you have finished building. Then tear it down and paint it last. Most peole here start with modest plans that spiral into frame notches, air bags, shock relocation, air tank mounts....etc. etc. etc.
Get it how you want it...make sure everything fits and bolts in as planned so you don't have to cut or weld on a painted frame or body. Then when you have every part installed and adjusted correctly, strip it down and paint it. |
Re: Operation : In to Deep!
Looking great. I'm about to start on my '71 that has been in the family for 35+ years. Been sitting in a country field for about 20 years and doesn't look so good now. Wish I had a garage/workshop like yours, would make my life a lot easier. :-)

Re: Operation : In to Deep!
sorry guys, no updates. my pickup has taken a back seat to work hours and some other household projects, sealing the deck, painting the house, opening the pool, etc.
hope to get back on this bad boy in the fall. I forgot where i left off. work has been crazy busy. 7 days a week 12 hours a day. dont give up on me yet boys! |
Re: Operation : In to Deep!
thinking about the 5 lug front and 6 rear, means you need to carry to spars and that you can not rotate the tires very easy. If it were me I'd go 5 all the way around

Re: Operation : In to Deep!
Nice progress man! You might have already figured out your rear end situation, but cpp also has a 5 lug axle conversion kit. It lets you use stock 70's drum brake parts.
