It sounds like you hit the motherlode on the 5.3, the Dirty Dingos and everything else! I wish I could have been so lucky rather than having to piece it all together! Way to go!

Now if we could only see some pics!

That is kinda what I did with buying another truck half done and took what I needed for my project and selling the donor truck and my old engine/tranny. The bad thing I ran into was that the PO didn't do much right and I'm still having to fix a lot of it...but I still saved some $$. Good luck with the twins, one of my best friends is having twins next month!

Thanks guys the kids have been fine since leaving the hospital just dads wallet thats on life support.

496 swap into the square body? man thats just wicked  seen a stock one in a newer 2500 hd and it whipped that thing around like it was butter. How many horses do these 8.1L's produce?

You had that one up for sale on CL didn't you? I am the one that called you asking if you wanted to sell the wheels and we got started talking about the LS swaps. I think I called you a couple months ago. haha

Well I have been unable to get much done for the past couple months...but I finally got a few more things buttoned up! Here are some pics with the motor in and a couple close ups of the headers some of you had asked about.

Nice build, I'm actually just about to start a 6.0/4l80e swap in my 85 as well. Just tryin to order a bunch of parts before I actually start the swap, this will defiantly be a learning process lol, Your headers look good do you know the part number for them, and they are just mid length right ?
Keep up the good work can't to see the progress on this truck

Thanks! The headers I have are the Doug Thorley 323y-c but they are 1 7/8". If you wanted the 1 5/8" their part number is 324y-c. I got them from Shon at Herron Performance but I just looked and his site has been taken down. I really like the headers and they fit very nicely!

Re: 85 6.0 lq4 4.80e swap

Well, ran into another snag. I took the driveshaft and had it shortened and balanced. Went to put it back in and it slid in about an inch and stopped. The yoke wouldn't go in the tailshaft housing. We scratched our heads about this for a day or two and then I took it back to the shop that did the shortening. They checked it and said it was the same yoke and nothing seemed to be wrong. They did a little more checking and it seems that when it got hot from welding, it may have expanded a little on the end. They turned it down on the lathe and beveled the end. Hopefully that will fix the problem, I hope to put it in tonight or tomorrow.

I don't mind at all. I got them from www.rttire.com I had to call them though. They were a little over $1800, I don't remember the exact amount without digging through my receipts. That included wheels, tires, mounted and balanced and shipped to my door.

Put the drive shaft back in Saturday and it fit great! So I guess the yoke did swell a little when they welded it back up. Front clip is back on...power steering hooked up...now just have to finish the other hoses for A/C, heater hoses, and radiator hoses, then tidy up all the wires running around the engine bay. Also ended up deciding to run two more electric fans in front pushing for the A/C...ordered those today. Getting closer! :metal:

I honestly don't know. When this was in the other 86 C10 that we took it out of, the driver side manifold was emptying right into the middle of the frame. I went ahead and ordered the headers since I didn't think the manifolds would work. When we figured out they had the adapter plates on the wrong side, it did move the position of the motor a good little bit so they may work now. We didn't ever try since I had the headers.

Well I have a few updates, we have made a lot of progress this week. Got everything buttoned back up and all the wiring done. I got it yesterday to take it to the exhaust shop but here is a video of it running with open headers.

Re: 85 6.0 lq4 4.80e swap

We put the bed back on then the new cowl hood on and loaded it up for the trip to the exhaust shop. Man, that was a mess. Long story short...my trailer ended up being a little short and narrow for the truck. Then busted a tire trying to get it back on the trailer at the exhaust shop. After about 45 more minutes, finally got it back on and home. Decided to go ahead and put the new shoes on so here is a vid of it running with new shoes and exhaust on.

Glad to see you got it going. What do you think about how it runs in this truck. Is there a big night and day difference compared to a carburated engine. Have you had it down the road yet? I am doing a build on mine and would like either a 6.0l Vortec or an LS in mine. Would like to hear some feedback if you don't mind.

Thanks man! Well, so far I love it but I haven't had it down the road yet because it is still wanting to choke out a little...which I think is due to me not having it tuned exactly to the cam. I had it tuned good enough to get it running and I am going to have it Dyno tuned as soon as I can get an appointment. But...I did drive it around a very short distance in my neighborhood and it is night and day different from carb engines (well the ones I had anyway). I thought my trans was slipping but realized it was just low of fluid so when I got it filled up, I stood on it pretty good in my paved driveway just to see if it would hold up. What I ended up with was about a 15 foot set of posi black marks and a wife giving me the evil eye :metal:
