Balance is the biggest reason I chose not to get the torque tube lengthened. I'm hoping to finish with a near 50/50 weight ratio like the C6. Balance is starting to get expensive though........a "G" note for aluminum heads (to lose 80 lbs) for instance. Just received my 66 corvette gauge cluster and glove box today. Aught to be fun trying to get that mocked up.

Started a cardboard mock-up of the 66' dash. Why doesn't someone invent a paper product that is the correct thickness for doing mock-ups? Everything I found was too thin or too thick. I know..............:waah:

Stacey David had some correct thickness on gears a few shows back, might be able to search it, it was inbetween.

Chevette, I use the poster board from target. I use it all the time so I buy it in the 10 piece packs. The dash is going to look great. Keep up the great work.

Thanks Shannon. I'll give Target a try, as the wife and I are in the Wa. later today. BTW, the wife prefers the name Targetté when she's telling her friends where she bought the new shoes.

Thanks Mud.man.rj: I'll have a look. Do you ever go to any Bombers games?

Question?

What are you going to do on the doors because the crown molding also is on the doors.

Inquiring minds want to know. I love this stuff very interesting mod and I would love to see it once you finished it with the doors on.

I'm cutting it out on the top and the front of the doors too. I'll fade it out at the front about an inch up from the bottom. It's something I'm only playing with it at this point because I need to install a new roof. The existing one has several thin spots due to corrosion (I suppose from condensation). BTW, hows the project coming?

Speaking of which, my buddy was telling me about a new mig wire that is real soft. He says it's soft like brazing rod and it dollies out real nice. Have you heard of this stuff? BTW I just bought a shrinker/stretcher. Then I went on You-tube and got a tip from Lazze (master of metal) on how to set the jaws up to work way better. I did what he said and it really work great.

frame is looking good chevette :D

look at fiberglassforums.com for some ideas on how to mock up a dash
you can easily free form shapes out of fiberglass
for me it's a lot less restrictive than metal

I have looked at all the fiberglass you have incorporated into your build and your glassing talent amazes me. The part I don't understand though is how you do it without making a huge mess. If I tried fiberglass I think my garage would be unusable for weeks later. I'll have a look at fiberglassforums.com. Maybe it would work better than metal. Thanks for the help, Ogre.

The only wire I heard of is twenty gauge, but I never used it so I can't comment. But if you ever tried tig welding body panels you will be hooked.

Chevette,
Did you have the rear suspension shipped to you or did you pickit up? If you shipped it, what was the weight?

Hi Shadow: I bought it locally and picked it up, so I have no idea of the weight. you might find the weight on Corvette Forum.

Chevette,
have you got your gauges yet? If not, these would probably look awesome with your mid sixties dash!

Installed, they look like this. They are awesome gauges, my brother in law used them. Where they really look great is at night. They have WAY nicer backlighting than my Omega Custom gauges. But to get them in he had to bond them rather than bolt them. It's in his build thread in my sig. New Vintage also has some nice ones.

I have to say those are very nice guages, kind of a vintage look to them.

I think what you are looking for is ESAB easy grind mig wire. I'm not sure where you will find it though. I asked about it at the ESAB booth at SEMA a few years ago but the guy had no clue what I was talking about.

Thanks Doug. I inquired today at Air Liquide about the wire you mentioned and the fellow told me that he was out of stock, but would have more next week. I ordered an 11 pound roll. I'll let you know how it works. Thanks again, Doug.;)
